Obituary of Roger Joseph Mullie
Roger Joseph Mullie was born in Tisdale, SK on November 25, 1945 and died February 21, 2020 in Prince Albert, SK.
Roger was the first born of Michael and Jeanne Mullie of Arborfield, SK. He was raised on the family farm and went to Addington School up to Grade 7. Grades 8 and 9 were completed at Arborfield School. For grades 10 and 11, he attended Notre Dame College in Prince Albert. He graduated Grade 12 in Arborfield in 1964.
His first job was with the Bank of Montreal in Hudson Bay, SK. He spent 1 year at the U of S in Engineering in 1965/66. He then attended Moose Jaw Tech for 2.5 years and studied Civil Engineering. He worked summers of 1965-68 with the Dept of Highways surveying crew.
In 1969, he worked as an underground surveyor for Inco in Thompson, MB. For the next 14 years he worked at various mines in the north, helped on the home farm, and drove trucks for the local alfalfa plants. In between jobs he took courses at Moose Jaw Tech.
Roger’s struggle with mental health began in his early 20s. This made it difficult for him to hold down a job for any length of time. The illness progressed to the point where he couldn’t work at all and by 1984, he entered a group home in Prince Albert for a year, then moved to his own apartment in P. A. In 1985, Roger was one of the first people who worked with SHARE, a support group for mentally challenged adults. They did community service and Roger was one of the hardest workers and seemed to enjoy the work. He was with this group for 20 years.
In 2005, Roger became a paraplegic and subsequently a resident of Herb Bassett Care Home in P. A. until his death.
His dream was to become a farmer and he filled pages with notes and figures on farming operations. For years he faithfully subscribed to The Western Producer.
Roger enjoyed visits with the family and driving his friends from SHARE to various towns in the area.
Roger is survived by his brothers Armand (Marlene) of Calgary, AB and Tony (Peggy) of Minnedosa, MB, his sister Annette Gunn (Andrew) of Okotoks, AB and many first cousins across Canada. He was predeceased by his parents Michael (2014) and Jeanne (2006).
Service will be at a later date.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Roger
