It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of Rocco Pepe on December 19, 2021.
Beloved husband of Vittoria (nee Colonello) for 65 years, father to Angela (Roger) Arsenault and Michael (Maria) Pepe, and nonno to Andrea Pepe (Sean Simko), Kassandra Arsenault (Marco Etreni), Stephen Pepe, and Breanna Arsenault (Craig Desrosiers).
Rocco was born in Orsara di Puglia, Italia, on December 21, 1931. He completed his military service there, then immigrated to Canada in 1956. A hard-working man, Rocco began as a labourer cleaning cars, in construction, and at the grain elevators. He eventually found permanent employment with Great Lakes Forest Products, retiring in 1991.
Proud of his Italian heritage, he was an active member of the Principe Di Piemonte Societa (DaVinci Centre). Serving on the executive council in the 1960-70’s he dedicated countless hours towards the establishment and early success of the DaVinci Centre.
Rocco had many interests that he enjoyed. As an active member of the St. Dominic’s Parish and Senior’s Club, he enjoyed his weekdays playing cards, and always looked forward to attending social events to spend time with friends. He was a self-taught man, a real do-it-yourself guy, who completed his own home renovations, automobile maintenance, and fixed most things around the house. He was always willing to share his knowledge and lend a hand to others.
Committed to a healthy lifestyle, he would take long walks and was a regular working out “and socializing” at the health club. He also enjoyed bowling in a mixed league for many years. He and Vittoria enjoyed travelling, and they explored many beautiful destinations in the world together.
Nonno had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren. He immersed himself in their endeavours, interests, and achievements, and always offered support and encouragement. Spending time in their company brought out the best in him.
He had an engaging attitude and good-natured demeanour that left a positive impression on anyone who had the good fortune to meet him. Rocco lived a full and active life, and will be profoundly missed by his family, relatives, and many friends.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at St Dominic’s Roman Catholic Church, 130 Redwood Ave W, with visitation for friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. followed by the funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. celebrated by Rev. Michael Mahoney. A private entombment will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made in memory of Rocco to the TBRHSC Foundation – Northern Cardiac Fund, Diabetes Canada, or Parkinson Canada.
