Robert John WIGLE — Dartmouth
With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Robert John Wigle “Wiggy”, 87, of Dartmouth on Saturday, September 11, 2021. Wiggy was a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend to many. Wiggy left this world reluctantly (he loved his life and the people in it so much) but quietly at home in the comforting, loving arms of his wife of 66 years, Theresa. He was predeceased by his parents, Robert P. Wigle and Emma Wigle; his brother, Donald “Mickey” Wigle. He is survived by his wife, Theresa F. Wigle (Terry); his children, Anne Marie Wigle (Victor Fraser), Daniel M. Wigle (Cheryl Casimer), Laurie B. Wigle (Kim Bisson), Robert S. Wigle, Michelle Scott (Blair); his grandchildren, Kyla Fenton, Matthew Fenton, Justin Casimer, Liam Wigle, Emma Wigle, Jacqueline Wigle, Anneke Wigle and his precious great-granddaughter, Annabelle. He also leaves behind his sisters, Marcia Gardiner and Liz Hackett whom he loved dearly, cherishing every moment, memory and laugh he shared with them. He had many nieces and nephews. Our family is not always born to us and when your heart is as full of love as Wiggy’s, he and Mom opened their arms and home to many others. Barbie (Baldwin) Isles and Russell Fornitaro stayed for short times but were embraced into our family forever. Wiggy was passionate about sports both as an athlete and a fan. In his early years he played hockey, becoming well-known as a goaltender in the Halifax Suburban League. As a youth he played baseball then later men’s softball and fastball. He was an outstanding first and second basemen. He often spoke of how much he enjoyed playing fastball with the men in Eastern Passage. Later in life Wiggy learned to play squash and tennis and became a proud member of both the Shearwater Squash Club and St. Georges Lane Tennis Club. Wiggy remained an avid hockey fan until the day he died, with a vast knowledge of the game and the players at all levels. He loved his Mooseheads. Wiggy was one of the founding members of the Eastern Passage Athletic Association where he organized coaches and coached minor hockey for many years. Everyone who knew Wiggy in the community or in his many years working in the auto parts industry could speak to his love of life, loyalty to friends, passion for sports and devotion to family. He made new friends every day and revelled in every new audience. Anyone who talked to Wiggy was left feeling like they were the most important person in the room. We would like to thank Dr. Peter Lee for his tremendous care, Lisa Laba and the Homecare staff that provided excellent home support. In lieu of flowers please donate generously to the Benevolent Society of Eastern Passage or The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
