Obituary
The passing of Robert ‘Bob’ Nathaniel Millett occurred on Wednesday, October 27, 2021 at the Loch Lomond Village in Saint John, NB after a period of illness. Born in 1933 at Chance Harbour, NB, he was the youngest child of Rev. Lt. John Stanley and Eleanor ‘Nellie’ (Robinson) Millett, and lived most of his life in Saint John.
In his youth, Bob participated in Royal Canadian Air Cadets and 8th Princess Louise’s (New Brunswick) Hussars Regiment and took an interest in curling that continued for many years. He graduated from Saint John High School in 1950 followed by Senior Matriculation in 1951. His natural interest in news and politics took root as a reporter for the Telegraph Journal, followed by roles in finance, and personnel with the Saint John Shipbuilding and Dry Dock and the City of Saint John. He will be remembered by City Market friends as ‘Mushroom Man Millett’, a produce stand he operated until he retired. He was an active volunteer for many organizations throughout his life including the Kinsmen Club, and as Treasurer for both the Glen Falls Recreation Association and Saint John Old Timer’s Hockey Association, among others. He helped establish the Glen Falls Flood Committee, and advocated for a replacement building for Glen Falls Elementary School and playground. He was recognized by the Canadian Red Cross for 50+ blood donations and sponsored two teen girls in Nicaragua to complete their schooling through the Christian Children’s Fund.
Bob is survived by four children: sons Retd. Lt.-Col. Rev. Stephen (Juanita) Fritz-Millett of Kingston, ON; Erik (Marie-Christine) Millett of Hampton, NB; Jodi Millett (Rita Raymond-Millett) of Quispamsis, NB; and favourite daughter Cynthia ‘Cindy’ Millett (Zen Hiew) also of Quispamsis; ten grandchildren: Victoria (Joel) Benotto; Aidan (Emily), Amelia and Lucy Fritz-Millett; Aaron Millett; Ka-Liong, Mariah and Sophia Hiew; Olivia and Owen Millett; great-granddaughters: Beth and Bella Benotto and Camila Thompkins; great-grandson Arthur Benotto and beloved nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Laura White and brothers Orvin, Ross, Myron and Benjamin Millett.
His children trust this formal notice meets his newsroom-standard for a ‘proper’ obituary.
