MERCIER, Robert Claude (Bob)
August 6, 1947 – March 22, 2021
Bob died alone in isolation and pain at the Ottawa Heart Institute (OHI). Retired from Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC), Bob was a long-time volunteer at the Canada Aviation and Space Museum (Second World War exhibition area), an international traveller and an avid reader with an extensive history library on subjects from ancient Egypt to the atomic age.
Survived by spouse Dyan Cross, sister-in-law Christiane Mercier, niece Edith Mercier, great niece/nephew Anabelle and Thomas Lacroix of Gatineau and by his aunt Gerry Doris of Calgary. Bob was predeceased by his brother Paul in April 2020
Throughout his disease treatment ordeal, Bob did receive prompt and considerate attention from frontline staff of Ottawa Paramedic Service and Para Transpo. Bravo.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at the West Chapel of Hulse, Playfair and McGarry 150 Woodroffe Avenue (at Richmond Road) Ottawa. Due to the latest Ontario covid prodicols limiting in-person groups you must RSVP on Bob’s web page, at www.hpmcgarry.ca .For friends and family who cannot attend, the service will be live streamed, and the live stream can be accessed through the funeral home website. A private burial will take place at a later date.
