Our beloved father and grandfather, Richard “Dick” Stone, has gone on to be with his cherished wife, Theresa. He passed peacefully at the Strait Richmond Hospital on April 16th, 2021. The son of the late John L. and Mary Jane (Gracie) Stone, he was born June 27th, 1938 In Lynches River, Cape Breton.
Dick married the love of his life, Theresa Groom, on September 21st, 1959. They settled in Grand Greve and resided there the remainder of their lives, raising four sons. Dick was employed for many years as a forestry worker, insulator and finished his career as a maintenance worker at the Provincial building in St. Peter’s. Dick was a hardworking, honest man who took great pride in his family. Dick was a comedian at heart and always had a trick to play or a witty remark to share with those around him.
Dick was predeceased by his parents and siblings, Tommy (Jane) Stone, Danny (Theresa) Stone, Clarence (Barbara) Stone, Mildred (Ben) Sampson, Katherine (Bill) Fedora, Laura (Ross) Morrison, Mary (Alan) MacLean, Rena (Bernard) Jessome, Charlie (Jean) Stone, John (Sandra) Stone, Johnnie Stone and Ernie (Laura) Stone. Dick was also predeceased by the love of his life and soul mate, Theresa, who he missed with every breath. Dick is survived by his four sons: Bernard (Sylvia), Gary, Kevin (Helen); Halifax & Darren; British Colombia. He is survived by his Grandchildren Joshua (Melissa), Cameron, Dylan (Jessica), Eric, Jeremy (Kasey), Katie and Great Grandchildren Cameron, Joe, Mallory and Madison. He is survived by sisters-in-law Darlene (Byron) Lafford, Mary Ann Groom, Marilyn (Noel) McNamara and brother-in-law Lewis Groom.
Cremation has taken place. Dick and his wife, Theresa, will be laid to rest in St. Peters on their wedding anniversary, September 21st, 2021, as per their wishes. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for any donations to be made to the Strait Richmond Hospital or to a charity/organization of your choice. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Green’s Funeral Home, 507 Bernard St., Port Hawkesbury.
