Richard Belisle Friday December 10th 2021

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Richard (Rick) Bélisle at the age of 58 years on December 10, 2021, after a long battle with cancer. Born in Timmins, Ontario, on August 9, 1963, Rick is survived by his spouse of 32 years, Kelly Gignac; his mother, Lélita Bélisle-Courchaine (nee Vallière); his sisters Diane Bélisle (Douglas Smith), Christine Caron (Ronald), Line Bélisle, Lise Levesque (Louis) – all of Kapuskasing – and two brothers: Norm Bélisle (Judy) of Sioux Lookout and Claude Bélisle of Thunder Bay.
Rick also leaves behind his much-loved nieces and nephews: Melanie Gagné, Shawn Caron, Mathew Smith, Jody Bélisle, Clinton Bélisle, Adèle Levesque, Renée Levesque, Sharda Auger, and Justin Bélisle, as well as Bruin Bélisle, Jayne Malenfant, Zachary Bélisle, Jackson Malenfant, Morgan Gignac and Payton Gignac; and several grand-nephews and grand-nieces. He was so proud of them all.
Rick was predeceased by his father, Hector Bélisle.
An avid fisherman, Rick made Opasatika Lake his second home and could often be seen confidently reeling in walleye with his long-time fishing partner, Jackson, or his brother Claude. He loved his job in forestry with Hydro One and took true pride in it. In his heart, Rick simply loved nature and reveled in its beauty – he was happiest when he was part of it or working with it (those who were lucky still possess an original ‘Rick’ creation).
He was the self-proclaimed and once-proven ping pong champion of Jamaica, a faithful Toronto Maple Leafs fan, and a fiercely loyal person to those he loved. He was fond of saying so many brilliant “off the cuff” things that will be repeated often in the coming years.
Rick Bélisle was a true friend to any who wanted friendship and a helping hand to any who needed help. He had a unique view of life, people and all things that matter. His skills were surprising and many. Rick will be deeply missed.
Family and friends will be invited to a Celebration of Life at a later date, when they’ll be encouraged to have a drink, make a toast, or tell a story. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Animal Rescue of Kapuskasing (ARK) or Bikers’ Helping Hand of Kapuskasing.
