Obituary
René Gaudreau
The family announces with sorrow his passing at Hornepayne Community Hospital on September 22, 2021 at the age of 77 years. Beloved husband of Beverley Gaudreau and dearest father of Duane Gaudreau (Tricia), Darnelle Hill (Daniel), and Warren Gaudreau (April) all from Hornepayne, Ontario. He is survived by his brother Camille Gaudreau (Adrienne) of Hanmer, Ontario and sisters, Anne Marie Vaillancourt (Richard) of Guelph, Ontario, Nicole Maclaren (Ken) of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and Carole Phibbs (Harley) of Matheson, Ontario. He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren Vanessa, Jennifer, Hunter and Carley, his great-grandchildren Akija, Keiree, Everett and Dakota-Lynn and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by brothers Yval Gaudreau (Olga), Paul Gaudreau (Judy), Claude Gaudreau (survived by Winnis) and Yvon Gaudreau and sisters Theresa Gaudreau (Jack) and Noella Caron (John), mother Laura Gaudreau and father Philippe Gaudreau.
René worked in various jobs including working at his family’s businesses the bowling alley/restaurant/poolhall and driving taxi, as well as building the highway, at the ice house cutting ice, and at Haavaldsrud Timber Company loading pulp onto rail cars. His main career was as a machinist for CN Railway. He truly enjoyed his work family at the CN shops. Once he retired, he and Beverley embarked on their journey of owning a business and opened Bev’s Bucks in 1997.
Owning and managing the store was a dream come true for him. He especially loved socializing with customers and friends.
René was known for his kindness, compassion and generosity. He had a strong faith which guided him throughout his life. He was constantly talking about honesty and forgiving others, as that was so important to him.
He had an incredible knack for carpentry. He often looked at a picture and then built it. We would ask him how he did it and he would shrug his shoulders and reply, “I don’t know, I just built it.” He had a hand in building quite a few houses in Hornepayne, in addition to building many things for his family over the years.
René’s greatest love was spending time with his family. He was a proud husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle. He loved to laugh and had a wonderful sense of humour. He was a great protector and always had the family’s back no matter what.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a private viewing and funeral service will be held at the Holy Name of Jesus Church. The viewing will be at 12:00 PM and the funeral service at 1:00 PM. Friends and family will be received at the Hornepayne Cemetery following the service and then at the Royal Canadian Legion at 3:00 PM.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at the Hornepayne Community Hospital for their exceptional care and compassion. The family would also like to say thank you to his best friend Lionel Hume for always being by his side.
Donations to the Hornepayne Community Hospital would be appreciated.
