Obituary
Reginald (Reggie) A. Pilon
It is with heavy hearts that the daughters of Reginald Pilon announce his death at 92 years of age on October 6, 2021 at the Campbellton Regional Hospital after a brief illness. It was 2 years plus 1 day that Reggie said good-bye to his wife of 66 years, Clara Elizabeth Culligan Pilon (Betty), the backbone of their long marriage. Born in Port-Alfred (La Baie) Québec to Tom Pilon and Olivette Paquette, Reggie was brought up in Dalhousie and although he was transferred by the CIP Mill to La Tuque and then Gatineau, Québec as Steam plant Superintendent, Reggie always considered Dalhousie (and Belledune) home. He would not miss a yearly visit, and after Betty’s death he moved permanently to the area, residing at Darlington Manor. Although plagued with loss of sight in the last few years, Reggie loved his outings to Debbie’s (Tim Culligan) and Cindy’s (Guy Arseneault) homes and car rides around the local area.
In his younger years, Reggie was a voracious reader and an avid golfer and curler. He loved watching all sports, including his Montreal Canadiens. He was inducted into the Dalhousie Sports Hall of Fame with the rest of the Dalhousie Dodgers’ Baseball Team for winning the 1954 Provincial Senior Baseball series against Lancaster at Saint John.
He was a proud alumnus of Saint Francis Xavier University, graduating in 1951 with a Bachelor of Science (Chemistry) degree. Education was very important to him and he was very proud of his girls – Debbie, Cindy, Wanda of Ottawa, Claudia (Ben Gravel) of Gatineau, Cheryl (Gary Doucet) of Prince George and Carrie (Steve Jodoin) of Wakefield – for pursuing post secondary education.
He was also extremely proud of his 13 grandchildren, whom he endearingly played with as children and lovingly teased as teenagers. He also loved being around his 3 great grandchildren. All will sadly miss Grampy/Papa and his crazy sayings like “Comment c’qui tiddly I tibou”.
Reggie is predeceased by his parents and sisters Shirley and Louise and survived by his sister Gail (Joe Laflamme). He is also survived by his 4 sisters-in-law, Norma Carrier (Belledune, NB), Anne Culligan (Belledune, NB), Ruth Farrell (London, ON) and Pat Culligan (Niagara Falls, ON).
Many thanks is extended to the staff and management of Darlington Manor for their excellent care and compassion shown to Dad during his stay there.
A funeral mass will be held at Saint John the Evangelist Church in Belledune in November.
Rest in peace, Dad! We love you!
