Randall Keith Bendle
May 06, 1950 – September 24, 2021
Randall Keith Bendle, 71, of Milford, NS, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on 24 September 2021 at Hospice Halifax.
Randy was born on 6 May 1950 to Elizabeth and Wilfred Bendle in the city of Halifax, NS. Moving a number of times throughout his childhood, they eventually settled back into Halifax, where Randy completed vocational school as a bookkeeper.
Before committing long term to the sometimes tame job of accounting, Randy experimented with a variety of professions including mechanic, Deputy Sheriff, construction and bartender (to name a few). Randy later expanded his education through Dalhousie, taking computer programming which he used in concert with his accounting skills at Irving Big Stop in Enfield, NS and later, Big Eric’s in Dartmouth.
The job that Randy was most passionate about was the one that he found within the Royal Canadian Legion. Randy dedicated 45+ years of his life as a member of Legion Branch #48, 10 years of which he served as Branch President. Randy was the epitome of a people-first leader and every decision and action he made as Branch President was with the intent to help others first. Randy was awarded Life Membership and the Legion Meritorious Service Medal for his exemplary service within the RCL and for his unwavering dedication in support of the veterans.
Randy first met the love of his life, Valerie, at 11 years of age when his family moved in next door to hers in Elmsdale, NS. It was only ten years later that they were married and starting their adventure together. Many who knew Randy would know him as a part of an almost inseparable couple: Randy and Val. Randy and Val went on to raise three children and welcomed many of their children’s friends into their home, as well.
Randy was an incredible father who provided unending support to his children. He taught them how to be kind, how to have courage and how to be true to themselves.
Randy was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Valerie, their children Lori (Cory) Isenor, Hilary (Dany) Forbes and Stefan (Charmaine) Bendle, his siblings Barry and Jane, his many nieces and nephews and his eight grandchildren Sylvia, Jocelyn, Jordan, Everleigh, Sophie, Keith, Caleb and Linda.
A Legion Memorial service will be held at Legion Branch #48 in Elmsdale, NS, on October 2nd. Doors will be open at 1:00 pm with the service commencing at 1:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider bringing a cash donation for Hope for Wildlife (or donating online), an organization close to his heart.
