Born June 9, 1943 in Wetaskiwin, Alberta; Died November 14, 2021 at Ardrossan, Alberta
Dave grew up on the family farm near New Norway. He had many happy memories of working with his Dad and Uncles with the livestock and helping with crops and harvest.
He left home at 18 to go to work in the oilfield. He spent many years on rigs in the Arctic. Wanting to spend more time at home, he transitioned into truck driving. He hauled concrete for Alberta Concrete Products, ultimately doing long haul across all of North America for N. Yanke Transport. He retired in 2011. In later years, Dave and Linda enjoyed some travel. Their first cruise in 2002, Dave discovered a love for the sea. He enjoyed sitting on deck watching the seabirds. They made several trips to Mexico and Hawaii.
Family meant much to him. Christmas was special. Many were the years he would drive through the night to be home Christmas morning.
He loved birds. He kept a flock of racing pigeons and was a life-long member of the Edmonton Racing Pigeon Community. When he moved to the acreage near Ardrossan, he and wife Linda raised and showed Appaloosa horses and North Country Cheviot sheep. The yard was filled with feeders for the wild birds – jays, chickadees, wood-peckers, nuthatches, and the numerous seasonal birds. Spring and fall were marked with the arrival and departure of the Purple Martins.
Dave was predeceased by his parents, John and Jean Pluim and his brother, Jim Pluim.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Walton-Pluim and his four children – Terri Dafoe (Mark); Kelly Pluim (Maryanne); Scott Pluim; Derek Pluim (Lisa) and grandchildren – Aaron Dafoe, Shalyn Dafoe and Arwyn Pluim. He is also fondly remembered by his sisters, Irene Dika, Laurie Benefield, and brother Robert Pluim as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
