Phyllis May Thorne
1926-2021
Peacefully at the Passamaquoddy Lodge in St. Andrews NB on
Tuesday, September 15, 2021; Phyllis May Thorne passed away surrounded
by many who loved and adored her at the young age of 95. Born in Saint
John, NB on July 2, 1926. She was the daughter of the late Gladstone
and Alice “May” (Clark) Carr.
Phyllis spent her young adult life as a devoted homemaker to
her husband and children. She was a hard worker, from raking
blueberries and making wreathes, to make ends meet for her children.
Later in life, it wasn’t unusual to find Phyllis playing in
her garden with her daughters whom she was so proud of, trucking
through the woods scouting for tips with her sons, creating beautiful
crafts that filled her home, in the kitchen baking rolls and her
famous “poor mans pudding” with her grandchildren, toe
tapping to her favourite hymns, and looked forward to running the
roads with her brother Jim during his trips home to visit with family
and friends. She especially loved her lunch dates with family for the
occasional “Big Mac” or fish and chips.
Phyllis will be forever truly missed by her children, Kim
(Larry) Vance, Tammy Voutt, James “Allen” Thorne, Beverly
(Jean Rock) Bernard, David (Sharon) Blagdon, and Carole (Brian)
Dickeson. Her Brother, James (Bettina) Carr from Burlington Ontario
and sisters Connie Richard and Susan Creary. Countless nieces and
nephews, as well as her many grandchildren and great grandchildren who
all cherished her. Along with her parents, Phyllis was predeceased by
her loving husband, John Thorne, by her sons Gordon
“Maurice” Thorne, infant Son “Dougie”, and
son-in-law Phillip “Sam” Voutt. And also by her sisters Ruth
Green and Norma Nason.
As per Phyllis’ request, cremation has taken place.
A graveside service and celebration of life will commence at the St.
George Rural Cemetery on Sunday, September 19th at 1 pm with Reverend
Mary-Ann Langmaid officiating. All who loved and treasured her are
welcome to attend, as her family would love to hear the many memories
and stories of our dear Phyllis.
A special thank you to the staff of both the Ridgeview Manor
and the Passamaquoddy Lodge for the exceptional care and devotion
displayed to Phyllis during her time spent with them. Phyllis spent
her late years happy, healthy, and cared for which is all that could
have asked for. The family truly appreciates each and everyone who
loved our Mom/Nan, and showered her with love, kindness, and
respect.
Donations to the Canadian Alzheimer’s Association
or a charity of one’s choosing would be greatly appreciated by her
family.
“Although your work here on
earth is done, Your life in heaven has just begun. Your struggles here
were hard and long, but they’re gone now; you’re
finally home. Life wasn’t easy, by choice or fate. A
decision made, sometimes too late. A fight to the finish, always
strong. Rest easy darling, you’re finally
home.”
