Phyllis’ Obituary
CLEM (Stevens), Phyllis Josephine ~ Age 97, of Aylesford, Kings Co., passed away peacefully in Orchard Villa, Middleton, on Friday, February 12, 2021. Born in Morden, on September 3, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Rachel (Atwood) Stevens. In 1942, Phyllis married Robert Franklin Clem of Victoria Harbour. She is survived by her children, Donna (George) Sabean, Morden; Doreen (Robert) Bennett, Waterville; Reginald (Carmen) Clem, Morden; and Trudy Clem, Morden; grandchildren, Racheal, Nathan, Melanie, Ryan, Alana, Carrie, Christy, Kelly, Alan; and several great grandchildren. She was predeceased by husband, Robert “Bob”; son, Allen; great-grandson, Dylan; siblings, Robert, Reginald and Andrew Stevens; Love (Stevens) Rawding. Following the death of her son, Allen in 1944, Phyllis trained as a hairdresser and later operated a shop in her home in Morden for several years. Phyllis loved her home, Bayview, in Morden, where she raised her family. Many children who visited have memories of her delicious donuts! She volunteered in many community fundraising events, was a member of the seniors group, Cross By The Sea, Aylesford Lionesses and Aylesford United Church. Phyllis and Bob enjoyed square dancing with the Don Haley dancers for many years. Attending bluegrass festivals was also a favourite time for them. Although she sold her home in Morden following Bob’s death and moved to Aylesford in 1993, Morden remained her happy place. She enjoyed nothing more than having “a good feed of lobster” and a visit to Morden to smell the salt air. With a group of friends, fondly known as “The Golden Girls”, she enjoyed lots of laughs, card games, camping and, of course, an occasional drink of rum! Her favourite colour was blue but she deplored anything yellow! The family would like to thank the staff of Orchard Villa for the loving and compassionate care given our mum, whom they affectionately called Nannie, during her time there. A special thank you to Kara and John for the Wednesday night TV bingo dates to which Mum always looked forward. There will be no visitation or funeral service at this time. A graveside service will take place at a later date in Burlington Cemetery. Donations in memory may be made to Burlington Cemetery Society or Morden Community Centre Association. Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, toll free 1-855-825-3448.Online guestbook may be signed by visiting: www.middletonfuneralhome.com
