Peter David Martin

In Loving Memory of Peter
It is with great sadness that the family of Peter David Martin age 65 of Sydney, Cape Breton announce his passing, suddenly, but peacefully at home in his sleep due to natural causes.
He was the son of the late J. Reid Sr. and Frances (Greer) Martin.
Born in Sydney, he loved Cape Breton, where he grew up. Peter attended Riverview Rural High School, started working with his father at Martin Equipment Limited in the mid 70’s, then along with his first wife Evelyn, he opened the business Stitching Post Ltd. in the mid 80’s. In the late 80 ‘s he also worked briefly for Schwartz furniture, Pat King Home Life Realty, and Realty World before leaving to open his own real estate company – P. Martin Realty in the early 90’s, and was accompanied later with his second wife Colleen working the business alongside of him. He started easing into retirement a few years ago – but was always busy with one project or another of his, or helping someone else out.
Peter loved the outdoors, gardening, raising chickens, fishing, being near water and generally keeping busy with work around his properties. He was a kindhearted individual who could be generous to a fault, and sometimes stubborn enough to get in his own way. He enjoyed going to Lac Brule, QC, in the summer as a child to spend time with family. He was very fond of dogs having grown up with many as pets – but always had a special love for his dogs from childhood and kept chickens for most of his adult years. He was a great cook and would always make sure you didn’t leave his company hungry.
Peter will be missed by his daughter Jennifer Martin of Ottawa / Mexico; son Benjamin Martin of Ottawa; daughter Aimee (Jonathan) Clemis of Ottawa, daughter Jodi (Todd) Marshall of Ottawa; and son Andrew (Tamara) Martin of Ottawa; Step children Brandy Martin of Calgary; Kyle Martin of Calgary; 13 grandchildren; sisters Nancy (Fred) Chipman, Linda Martin (Hubert) Jacquin and Liane (Sandy) MacMullin; and many nieces and nephews, friends and neighbours.
He was predeceased by his sister, Deborah Martin and brother, James Martin Jr.
A celebration of Peter’s life will be held at a later date due to COVID restrictions. Condolences and sharing of memories, videos or photos are encouraged and may be shared with the family here via the obituary page for Peter on the Dartmouth Funeral Home website.
