Obituary of Paul Gregory McKinnon
Paul McKinnon, September 14, 1967 – July 5, 2021
Epitomizing goodness, strength and love, Paul passed in the Dartmouth General Hospital on July 5, 2021 after an extended illness. Born in Sydney, Cape Breton, Paul was the son of Michael and Elizabeth McKinnon of Glace Bay. Paul graduated with a Bachelor of Arts – History from St. FX in 1991.
Famous for his generosity, ready smiles and talents in the kitchen, Paul always put others’ needs before his own. A gentle, quiet soul who exuded kindness with everyone to his final moments. He loved his family, friends and especially his dog “Goo”.
Paul is survived by his wife Lori; sisters Lillian, Kathleen and Elizabeth (Dario); brother-in-law Glen (Ann Marie); and sister-in-law Beverley (Butch). He cherished his nieces and nephews McKenzie, Logan, Sarah, Daniel and Kate to the very end.
Paul was predeceased by his parents; brother Mike; father-in-law and mother-in-law Earl and Irene Penney. The love and respect Paul felt for his family went beyond words.
A heartfelt thank you to all who cared for Paul’s well-being; the many medical teams throughout the years tasked with navigating the complexities of his health. Your dedication will not be forgotten. Two teams which Paul relied on: the VON who cared for him for over 20-years and the team of Dartmouth General 3 West – your gentle and tender care shown to Paul and his family easing him to final rest was extraordinary.
A Celebration of Paul’s Life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to your local animal shelter or rescue. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr., Coldbrook, NS, B4R 1B9 (902-679-2822).
Please be kind to one another, cherish your experiences both easy and difficult, and find laughter in the darkest of times.
“You will forever be my lubbie” – Lori
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Paul
