Obituary for
Paul William Lockhart
Lockhart, Paul William
The family of Paul William Lockhart is saddened by his sudden and unexpected passing on Saturday, April 24, 2021. Born in Chatham, New Brunswick on June 16, 1962, he was currently residing in Truro, NS.
Family was of the utmost of importance to Paul. Born to loving parents, the late Carol (Spence) Lockhart and the late Lorne Lockhart, Paul endlessly shared stories of his wonderful childhood. He has three brothers, Jim Lockhart (Angela), Chris (deceased), his son, Trevor and Jason (Kelly). He was the proud uncle to Benjamin and Olivia. Paul married Valerie and together they had a beautiful daughter, Zelda Kelly Lorne Lockhart. Kelly was the heart and soul of Paul’s life. Paul proudly raised his daughter to follow in his footsteps to hike, camp and explore and to be open minded and non-judgmental. He taught her kindness and compassion and to have integrity. He tenderly called her “his Youngen” and was her biggest fan and supporter. Every decision Paul made was with the best interest of Kelly, first and foremost. Paul will be deeply missed by Lisa Pollard. They were inseparable adventurers, anchored at the heart.
Travelling the globe was familiar to Paul during his proud service to our country. Paul served with the Infantry, PPCLI with the Canadian Department of National Defence prior to choosing to serve with the Navy, NCIOP with the Canadian Department of National Defence from 1991-2002. He was deployed for many tours of duty and served with pride.
Paul was a passionate instructor with Young Drivers of Canada. He loved to fill his students with knowledge and safety tips (NEVER TEXT AND DRIVE!), and would often share his life stories with his students. He was a compassionate, yet firm teacher, who felt a deep sense of duty to ensure every student was ready to drive safely. He felt a sense of family with the entire team at Young Drivers in Truro.
Paul was born with a sense of curiosity and a passion for exploring. From the tender age of fourteen, he would often set out for a ‘hike’ that could last few weeks. He loved to share his adventures, and years later, would revisit his stories with words or by taking a friend on a road trip to share his adventures. He enjoyed bowling, nature, golf, camping and if you had a deck of cards handy, he would entertain for hours with his quick hands and comical sense of humour. He was talented with a pencil and sketch pad, often drawing cartoons and caricatures. Paul was also a wonderful juggler. He loved cows and trains and backroads. He was an avid sky diver in his youth.
A Celebration of Life will be held once COVID-19 restrictions permit. Donations to MADD in Paul’s memory would be greatly appreciated. Arrangements have been entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro. Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.ColchesterCommunity.com
