DAVID “PAUL” RIDDOCH
Paul came into this world at the Lady Willngdon Nursing Home in Madras, India on March 24th 1952. A born Scot, he was the son of the late David Dargie and Sheila Winifred (Kinahan) Riddoch.
The family immigrated to Canada in 1954. Paul would always say he had the most perfectly idyllic childhood growing up in Banff, Alberta. He loved the mountains and particularly the Black Diamond runs at Mount Norquay.
Paul studied Political Science at the University of Calgary where he cultivated a lifelong interest in politics and fostered his obvious talents for provocative debate.
He went on to a long and successful career in medical sales and marketing. This is where he met his future wife, Judith Kent. They were married in Lunenburg in 1998. They spent their professional life in Calgary and summers in the old Cape on Smeltzer Road NS until they retired permanently to Princes Inlet in 2015.
Knowing Paul meant knowing his passion for and knowledge of music. There was nothing he enjoyed more than discovering some new and obscure musical act and sharing it with others. In fact, he relished in meaningful discussion on most any topic with people from all backgrounds and age brackets. He did this with his ever-present candor, humour and humility.
Along with his wife, Paul cherished his two children, Christopher (Katie) and Daron (Kenny), and his adored grandchildren, Jade, Rosie, Max and Julia. He will be incredibly missed by his much-loved sisters, Maureen (Brian), Trish (Miguel) and sister-law Angela. Special to Paul were his nieces and nephews, Susan, Michael, Dominic, Alexandre, Danielle and Haynes who were at the receiving end of many a life lesson from Uncle Paul.
Paul received exceptional medical care and both he and Judith will always be grateful to his GP, Dr. Koleen Jensen, the “angels” at Fisherman’s Hospital and Dr. Greg Bailey and his wonderful team on the 5th floor. Many thanks also to the surgical and oncology groups and the VON.
Generous of spirit, Paul lived mindfully and thoughtfully and when faced with a diagnosis of terminal cancer, Paul chose to live each day grateful for the gifts of his wonderful life.
Donations in memory of Paul may be made to the QEII Foundation designated to support the QEII Department of Urology, in gratitude to the urology team at the QEII.
