Patricia “Pat” McLaughlin passed from this life at dawn on Christmas morning suddenly, surrounded by her loving sisters Marie Stoneman (Dennis), Brenda Aquilina (Charles) and Caroline O’Connor (Patrick) and brother Jim McLaughlin (Heidi). She was a dedicated teacher who gave of herself over a career of more than 36 years with the Toronto Catholic District School Board from which she had retired in 2016. Most of those years saw her teaching the youngsters of Blessed Sacrament School at Yonge Street and Bedford Park Avenue in Toronto at the Grade 1/2 level. She was a passionate and accomplished gardener. Pat is the cherished aunt of nieces and nephews whom she loved, mentored and cared for unstintingly: Laura and Sarah Aquilina, William and Christopher Stoneman, Amanda, Nicole and Daniel O’Connor and Emily, Paul and Eric McLaughlin. She has been the center of family life and the den mother to us all. Pat is survived by her Aunt Annie Hunter of Slievebawn, Ireland, by many cousins residing in Ireland, the UK and the USA and by her uncles Paddy McLaughlin of Malin Head, County Donegal, Ireland and Charlie McLaughlin of Milton, Massachusetts-their twinkling Irish eyes mimicking those of her adoring father Bill who predeceased her in 1985. Her much loved mother Bridie McLaughlin (nee Houghton) predeceased her in 2015 after several years under Pat’s kindly care, having herself lavished so much care on Pat and her siblings in their early years. More recently Pat pampered and enjoyed the devotion of her (very fortunate) Malti-poo Gracie Lou. Pat is greatly loved and she means even more to us than she knew. Our hearts are broken to have lost this gentle soul. We commend her to the embrace of our Lord asking that she be granted His eternal life and that His perpetual light may shine upon her.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Patricia “Pat McLaughlin 2021..
Death notice for the town of: Thornhill, Province: Ontario
Our ‘Miss McLaughlin” was a wonderful teacher at Blessed Sacrament School. Her quiet, caring manner was a great match with her young students and reassuring to the parents. We knew our children were in good hands with her as their teacher. We used to see her regularly at Blessed Sacrament Church mass and she always greeted us warmly over the past 30 years (she taught our oldest daughter in 1986). We remember her fondly and extend our condolences to her family during this sad time. Jody and David Macdonald
My condolences to the McLaughlin family. Pat was such a kind and dedicated teacher and colleague who will be missed by many for her friendship and thoughtfulness. While I have not seen Pat in many years, I will always remember her as fiercely dedicated to her students, and ready to laugh in the staffroom. Marguerite Thomson
I taught with Pat at Blessed Sacrament. I told her often that I wished she could have taught my kids. She was an intuitive teacher who understood the children who she taught. I know that she also was a wonderful gardener which makes perfect sense as she nurtured, cultivated and supported her flowers just as she did with her students.
Remember the happy times with her to sustain you through the weeks and months to come.
Miss McLaughlin was my grade one teacher way back in 1983/84. My daughters are now both at Blessed Sacrament and the principal recognized her lifetime of accomplishments and teaching during this morning’s announcements.
Miss McLaughlin made a positive impression on my life and no doubt on countless other students, friends, and family. I’m saddened to learn her life ended so early… she certainly deserved more time enjoying retirement and her garden.
I taught with Pat many years ago at the beginning of my teaching career. When I made the switch from intermediate to primary teaching, she was a great help, always willing to share her expertise and insights to assist me in developing my professional practice. We had many great chats after school and for this I am forever grateful. Her kindness, wonderful smile and her willingness to help all in need at Blessed Sacrament were much appreciated by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
