Seaward (nee O’Neill)
Patricia Mary March 17, 1943-December 12, 2021
It is with profound sadness, yet loved-filled hearts that we share the passing of our beloved mother, mother-in-law, sister, aunt, sister-in-law and friend, Patricia Mary Seaward (nee O’Neill) of Mount Pearl, formerly of Pasadena.
Patricia passed away peacefully surrounded by family and close friend, Rose Hood, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Patricia is predeceased by her parents Frank and Francis O’Neill of Harbour Grace.
Leaving to mourn with unconditional love, son Brian (Carla Brake) and “her boys,” grandsons Lucas, Andy and Max of Pasadena.
With love and a lifetime of memories are siblings Gerald O’Neill, Alberta; Ann and John Garland, Harbour Grace; Jean O’Neill, Mount Pearl; nieces Kimberly (Dave Dawson) Garland, Ontario; Michelle (Scott) Pike, Carbonear; great-nephews Justin Pike, Carbonear; Cameron Pike, Paradise; and Noah Vinet, Ontario.
Patricia will also be sadly missed by both the O’Neill and Seaward families, children at the Rainbow Daycare Centre in Mount Pearl and so many of her colleagues and students over the years.
Patricia was born in 1943 in Riverhead, Harbour Grace to Frank and Francis O’Neill. She was the oldest of four children, followed by Gerald, Ann and Jean. Patricia attended school in Riverhead as a child and high school at St. Claire’s in Carbonear. Patricia’s love of children led her to pursue a career in teaching, moving from the metro area, to Labrador, to Pasadena (Holy Rosary), where she finally settled and married Brian Seaward Sr. Though far from home, Patricia looked forward to visits from her special nieces during summer breaks.
In Pasadena, Patricia worked primarily with young children. Even after 30 years of teaching, she once again returned to the east coast to work with children in several daycares in the St. John’s area, where she was content and excited to work well into her 70s.
Always saying that working with children was her calling, and a constant source of energy, regardless of who they were, Patricia considered them all the loves of her life.
No matter where Patricia went, she glowed with pride over her only son, Brian. She reveled in stories of him growing up to everyone she met, always with profound pride for him and his family.
She beamed over him becoming a father and loved the stories they shared together. Though fond of the outdoors, she would think twice about Brian’s invitations for a ride with him on an array of motorized vehicles!
On any given summer day, and regardless of weather, Patricia could be found on many a baseball field to watch her grandsons play ball. The boys brought her joy and she found every opportunity to celebrate them.
Born a St. Paddy’s Day baby, and true to her Irish roots, Patricia celebrated this occasion, along with many others. She would use any excuse for a dance and a party! She shared many of these special times with her friend, Rose Hood. On Saturday nights, she and Rose enjoyed the tunes of Craig and Glenda Piercey of the Heartland Band. At Tol’s, she found the best music and memories to be had. It’s with these memories in mind, that Patricia’s dance will beat forever in our hearts.
Thank you to the H.S. Bliss Murphy Cancer Clinic; doctors and nurses at the Health Sciences Centre and St. Clare’s Hospital, who provided excellent care and kindness to Patricia and her family.
Thank you to Patricia’s and Jean’s neighbours for their unwavered concern and support, and for providing meals, rides and friendship.
Thank you to all who expressed their sympathy.
Brian and Carla would like to express their sincere gratitude to Aunt Jean for the love and care she provided for Patricia over the past two years. Patricia often spoke about Jean’s unconditional support for her and Patricia wanted Jean to know how thankful she was to have her at her side.
Cremation and Inurnment have taken place. As per Patricia’s wishes, friends and family are invited to attend a special celebration of her life next summer.
Donations will be accepted to a children’s charity of one’s choice in honour of Patricia.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Patricia Mary Seaward 2021..
