Patricia Jane Goodwin
1944-2021
Patricia Jane (Fisher) Goodwin
ventured to gardens of unending beauty on Friday, January 22nd.
She’s joining her loving husband, Cliff and parents
Catherine (Weebe) and Harold Fisher. Her children, Tom (Jennifer),
Charlie (Cindy) and Sally (Dave) will continue to weed the garden she
left behind here along with help from Pat’s surviving
sisters Betty (son Greg) and Joan and brother Randy (wife Judy and
children Jacqueline and Daniel).
Pat started her journey in
Saint John, New Brunswick on September 5th, 1944. At the end of her
toddler years the family moved to Lachine in Montreal, Quebec where
she lived into the mid-1960s. For her whole life the family kept a
cottage in Hamilton PEI where they could retreat to in the summer
months and be near family. Pat graduated from Lachine High School and
then McGill’s MacDonald College with a Bachelor of Science
degree in Home Economics in 1965. After that she embarked on a career
in teaching.
While at Lachine High, Pat
met her high school sweetheart, Cliff Goodwin. They dated through
their years together at MacDonald College and got married on June
25th, 1966. Shortly after, they moved to Lennoxville in the Eastern
Townships of Quebec. Cliff finished his degree at Bishop’s
University and Pat taught math and science at Lennoxville High School
and King’s Hall in Compton. By the end of 1969, Cliff was
teaching at Bishop’s College School across the river from
the University. They lived on the BCS campus when their first child,
Tom was born. They planted themselves there until 1998. Pat gave birth
to Charlie in 1972 and Sally in 1973. Summers were then mostly spent
at their cottage they built on Lake Francis in the Laurentians. Pat
focused on raising her perfect angelic children full time while always
maintaining a large garden, engineering meals in the kitchen, knitting
and sewing clothing from scratch and teaching her children to be
creative, active, giving and self-confident. By 1979, Pat and Cliff
decided that they would like to have plumbing and electricity at their
summer home and sold the cottage they built and bought a farmhouse in
Hamilton PEI. That same year Pat returned to teaching at BCS. She
taught math and later on some computer science. They forged a strong
social circle of friends in the Eastern Townships that remained strong
their whole lives.
In 1998, they retired to PEI
where Pat kept up her garden and assisted Cliff in his golf
organising. They continued an active life spending as much time as
they could with their grand-children MacKenzie, Emma Jane, Calder,
Olivia, Quinn, Sammy and Percy who were stretched across the country.
With their new life in PEI their circle of friends naturally grew
there too.
Pat stuck to her guns, always
knew what she wanted, loved learning, teaching, nurturing and caring.
She cultivated the best life possible.
Her children plan to throw a
celebration in the summer for her life, pandemic permitting. Anyone
wishing to give a donation in her name could do so by supporting a
charity that touched her, the Guardians of the Children. a charity her
generous and caring neighbour, Gary Rogers, is involved with.
Donations can be sent at www.peigoc.ca.
Pat loved growing flowers, vegetables, plants and trees. Feel free to
grow some in her memory this spring.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Patricia Jane Goodwin 19442021..
