Obituary
Opal Tulak (nee Westfall) born in Central Butte, Saskatchewan but calling Penticton home since 1967 passed away peacefully and went to be with her Lord at the age of 89 years. Predeceased by her parents, husband Joe, 2 daughters-in-law, Mary and Donna, and brothers, Claude, Sid, Roy, Les and Wayne and sisters Florence, Minnie and Marjorie, she will be fondly remembered by her children, Craig (Teri), Kevin (Lori), Shelley (Darrell) and Wade; 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Her life was full with family and friends and owning two businesses in Penticton along with her husband Joe. Opal’s family would like to thank Dr. John Surkan and the nurses and staff at Haven Hill Retirement Centre for the compassionate care shown to her during her time there. Many came to say their goodbyes and share how she blessed their lives. One comment was, “It was cool to see her fiery, vibrant personality and laughter right up to the end.” Others said she was like a mother to them. The family would also like to thank Bernice Doucette and Sue Kraiger who showed mom such awesome friendship and care. Her faith in Jesus sustained her and helped her live authentically, never wavering in who she was. She loved her church family and friends and served faithfully and passionately in Sunday School and other ministries for many years. She and dad had close friends whose company they enjoyed over the years, and she was fortunate to have her longtime friend of 65+ years, Val, with her in the Upper Grape pod at Haven Hill. We believe they helped each other through the lonely year of COVID with their arguing, bantering, laughter and love of each other. She loved each of one us so sweetly especially those great grandbabies. We love you, Mom. Thank you to you and dad for giving us the very best life filled with love, common sense, community, courage, strong morals, faith and each other. We are beyond blessed. A celebration of her life will be held at the Penticton Church of the Nazarene on August 14, 2021 at 10:00 am, officiated by Pastor Brock Greenhill.
