Noreen Claire Easton McCarron Saturday August 28th 2021

Noreen Claire Easton (1937-2021)
In loving memory of Noreen Claire Easton, born January 8, 1937 in Chatham, Ontario, who died August 28, 2021 from multiple myeloma at Joseph Brant Hospital in Burlington, Ontario. Our mother’s proudest achievement was her four children: Shelly (Wayne) of Hamilton, Karen of Calgary, Susan of Toronto and Bayfield, and John (Debbie) of Bayfield, Ontario. She was a proud grandma to Adam and Meredith Burt and Connor and Ryan Kuehn. She is lovingly remembered by her brother, Ed, and sister-in-law, Janet McCarron, of Wallaceburg and many friends. Formerly married for 30 years to Jim Easton of Chatham and later to “Woody” of Bradenton, Florida. Predeceased by her sister, Anita, and parents Eileen and Andrew McCarron.
Our mom was raised in Chatham, attending “The Pines” high school and went to teachers’ college in London. Over a 35-year career with the Kent County Roman Catholic School Board, she taught kindergarten up to Grade 7 and was a teacher-librarian. Education and lifelong learning were predominant themes throughout her 84 years. When we were growing up, she emphasized the importance of achieving two goals: getting a university education and making sure to travel. She applied these rules to herself by attaining a bachelor’s degree from the University of Windsor at night school while teaching fulltime and raising four children. We followed in her footsteps, attaining seven degrees amongst us. And we all took on the mantle of travel, exploring the globe and sharing what we saw with her.
Noreen loved to spend Christmas in Florida and travel along Burlington’s Lakeshore Road to see the festive lights. She was always happy to be on the move, whether it was up to Lake Huron or by handivan to the seniors’ centre and through the years travelled to Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii, Florida, Vancouver, Nashville, Colorado, Texas, England, Scotland, Paris and Rome, always with a plan to see more. She cherished her many Chatham friendships, which were decades old and brought her such joy. She loved music, especially Frank Sinatra and big ballads, playing bridge, anything pink, dancing, getting her hair done once a week, Red Lobster, appetizers for dinner including “Grandma’s dip,” pickles, a fresh salad with tomatoes and radishes, and a good party. Despite best efforts, her struggles often cast long shadows over her innate optimism and sunny disposition. No matter what, she was friendly, intensely curious and fiercely independent. Without a lie, she lived 29 lives.
Many thanks to everyone (especially Pat, Dawn and Jody) at Lakeshore Place in Burlington who welcomed our mom 13 years ago, always rolled with her escapades and made it her warm and happy home. She loved her rooms and the views of the lake.
In following our mom’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private service will be held at a later date. One of her favourite passages is known as the Irish Prayer: “May God give you … For every storm, a rainbow, for every tear, a smile, for every care, a promise, And a blessing in each trial. For every problem life sends, a faithful friend to share, for every sigh, a sweet song. And an answer for each prayer.”
