Obituary
Nathalie “Candace” Nicholson
January 02, 1989- September 13, 2021
Candace left us peacefully at home in Moncton, NB. September 13, 2021. Through tears we said we love you and see you later.
Born January 02, 1989 in Dalhousie, NB. She was the daughter of Lorilei Nicholson (nee Harvey) and Wayne Smearer (Debbie).
Monday was her favourite day of the week, It was the day school would begin after the weekend. She had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. As a child she would watch New England cooking programs on Saturday mornings instead of cartoons. She would cry if school was cancelled. A strong desire to always learn.
Surpassing all the pediatric milestones it would seem she unknowingly was trying to do so much before genetics would dictate otherwise. At age eight her physical difficulties began but her witty personality and humour saw her through many difficult times and situations.
Through the aid of her kind pediatrician she met “Sam”, her service dog. (A match made in heaven). Almost every day Sam stepped on her mothers foot. They went to high school together and graced the cover of the Times and Transcript with their picture. Sam was also with her when she earned an honours degree in psychology, including to write a thesis “A Gray Matter” ( in the library at Crandall University) summarizing her health issues. She was also grateful to Susan who was with her all but one day to assist her and Sam during those four years. She also obtained a certificate from Ryerson University in Gerontology.
Always striving for excellence and educating the ability in disability.
Determination was a strong character trait, convincing the owner of Skydive Moncton to tandem skydive. Tandem skydiving with the owner (Pictures and video to prove), doing cartwheels in the sky was “the best feeling ever’ and would have done it again in a heartbeat.
If you wanted advice, be prepared for honest, accurate advice. She loved the sound of the waves at the beach and the wind in the trees. She loved Psychological thrillers and true crime stories. She was an avid reader.
She spent hours on her Rifton bike “Oscar”, with her three loyal papillons- now only one, “Tom”, who will miss her dearly (Checking on her often these past few months).
Generous and always putting the needs of others above her own. Grateful and thankful for all help received. Thankful for all the kind people she met through this journey. Open minded and kind (kindness being the highest form of intelligence)
Always putting much thought and meaning into everything she did- she will be greatly missed.
As family and friends we are missing that beautiful smile and oh so thankful for the gift, the blessing of her life.
Although she didn’t think of herself as an inspiration, she did inspire many.
“If there ever comes a day when we can’t be together, keep me in your heart. I’ll stay there forever”
Wisdom of A.A. Milne
