Mike Kardynal 2021

Mike’s Obituary
Mike Kardynal passed away at the Canora Hospital on April 26, 2021, at the age of 90 years.
Michael (Mike) James was born October 17, 1930, the fifth of ten children born to Wasyl and Eva (nee Styrykowski) Kardynal of the Stenen District.
As a young man, Mike helped out on the family farm. At the age of 18, he sought employment at the mine in Snow Lake, MB, for the winter months returning to the farm in the spring.
He then worked for the Feeley and Kardynal farms of Preeceville, SK, until 1955, after which he then went to Ontario where he worked at Red Lake and surrounding mines in the area. In 1958, he met and married Lori Holiday of Cochenour, ON. They were blessed with two children, Holly and Jamie. In 1964, the family moved to Vancouver, BC, and Mike obtained employment driving a thirteen-mile tunnel to an ore bay.
Mike and Lori separated, and in 1970, Mike met Annie Barber. They were married in 1971. To this union, Annie’s son, Philip, was added.
The family moved back to Saskatchewan in 1971 to the family farm, where Mike continued to reside until his passing.
In his younger years, Mike enjoyed going hunting, watching football, and was an avid sports fan. He always participated in curling and played slow-pitch with the Stenen Senior’s ball team. He was also a member of the Stenen Dew Drop In Centre. As an active member of his community, Mike volunteered whenever and wherever possible. Additionally, Mike enjoyed dancing and playing cards. He especially appreciated the opportunity to enjoy beverages and visits with family and friends. Above all, throughout his life, farming remained his true passion.
He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Mike was predeceased by his parents, his father, Wasyl in 1990, and mother, Eva in 1994; wife, Annie in 1994; daughter-in-law, Sheila Kardynal; sisters: Ann Kozmeniuk, Mary Nelson, and Kay Kindratsky; sister-in-law, Rose Kardynal; brothers-in-law, Pete Kozmeniuk, Fred Nelson, Tony Kindratsky, and Ed Kaminski; niece, Patti Nelson; and special friend of 25 years, Gloria Lozinski.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his daughter, Holly (Murray) Smith; sons, Philip Kardynal and Jamie (Chris) Kardynal; grandchildren: Kaylan (Kyle), Sandy, Curtis, and Aaron; great-grandchildren: Nathan, Abby, and Logan; brothers: William (Stella), Joe (June), Steve, and John (Diane); and his sisters, Mable Kaminski and Carol (Art) Herman; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
A Public Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, April 30, 2021. A Private Celebration of Mike’s Life will be held (and live-streamed) at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 1, 2021, from the Chapel of Leson’s Funeral Home, Canora, SK, with Rev. Betty-Lou Skogen officiating.
