George Michael SIMPSON
May 06, 1956 – October 15, 2021
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of George. Predeceased by his parents Alfred Jr. and Laurette SIMPSON. Dear Brother to Carol (Robert) FNUKAL and Lynda DALE. Loving uncle to Stephanie (Chris) MARSHALL and Ivan FNUKAL. Great uncle to Evan and Ethan MARSHALL. Growing up in Haileybury, ON George was an active in all kinds of sports and outdoor activities. He did not let a devastating accident, which confined him to a wheel chair in his early twenties, slow him down. He was active in the sports of wheel chair rugby, curling and sailing where he was a long-term member at the Nepean Sailing Club and participated in several sailing competitions. He also volunteered at the Community Centre on Donald St. with youth.
Many thanks to his attendants who helped him over the many years. Thanks too to the staff, nurses and Doctors at the Montfort Hospital who cared for George in his final days. A visitation will be held at Hulse, Playfair & McGarry – St. Laurent Chapel, 1200 Ogilvie Road, Ottawa on Saturday, October 23, 2021 from 2-5pm. Due to covid restrictions, if you wish to attend, please RSVP on the funeral home website just below George’s obituary. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice.
