Michael Davis Friday November 26 2021

DAVIS, Michael – We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Michael Garson Davis on November 26, 2021, in his home, surrounded by his family.
Originally from Saint John, New Brunswick, Michael had the opportunity to also live in Montreal, Ottawa, Halifax, Cardiff, and eventually settling in Toronto with his wife Hyla, to whom he was married for forty-four years.
Michael was a passionate and kind man who was well known for helping others. Whether it was through his work as a dermatologist, or fundraising for charity, or supporting his friends and family, Michael took on the role of helper with pure zeal. In his work, he went above and beyond for his patients, caring for them as though they were family.
Michael had many other passions, including travel and cycling. Michael got to indulge in both these passions in cycling trips with Hyla. They also cycled together in the Ride to Conquer Cancer for several years. They considered everything they did together to be an adventure.
Michael also loved to dance, and could also be seen enthusiastically cutting a rug any time a dance floor was available to him. Anyone who has ever seen Michael dance will remember the huge smile on his face that accompanied his exuberant footwork.
Michael’s greatest love, without question, was for his family, who felt that love in his every word and gesture, and who will be feeling the loss of it forever.
Devoted husband to Hyla. Loving father of Anna and Colin, Liron and Cameron, and Adam. Son to the late Abraham and Goldie Davis. Son-in-law to Sally and the late Lloyd Zerker. Brother to Philip, Roslyn and Nordau, and Susan and David. Brother-in-law to Steven and Joan, and Howard and Carole. Uncle and great-uncle to many nieces and nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews.
Heartfelt thanks to all the medical professionals and caretakers who provided so much support and comfort to Michael.
A private graveside service will be held for family. Donations can be made to the Saint John Jewish Historical Museum 506-633-1833 jewishmuseumsj.com/donations , The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation 416-946- 6560 thepmcf.ca/ , or the Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care 416-586-8203 www.tlcpc.org/.

  3. Barbara S. Cohen: Dr. Davis was a kind, gentle, caring and superb human being who will be sadly missed. What a wonderful Dermatologist!

  4. Dr. Michael Davis -It is sometimes quite difficult to find the words that best describe your personal experience and feelings about another person, especially someone that you greatly admire. My brother Louis had a long standing friendship with Michael Davis as both his skin doctor and personal friend. He referred to him as “one of a kind” , “smart”, and “salt of the earth”.

My wife Victoria and I first met Dr. Davis about 6 years ago. We were drawn almost immediately to him as he exuded so much kindness, sensitivity, and caring that you would at times forget he was your doctor and not the meeting of a long lost friend. Every time we met him it was like seeing that long lost friend as Michael was always eager to hear our opinion on some current event; to talk about our latest holiday adventure; our early efforts for Victoria to get pregnant… whatever the topic ..he just just really cared about people …

My dad would cross paths with people once in a blue moon and would turn to his then young son Aaron and say “that guy has a heart of gold!” My dad who passed many years ago would have really liked Michael Davis and would have shared our respect and admiration for him. We will always remember Michael Davis for his keen interest in people; his love of life and friendship … his humanity … his generosity of spirit ….

I know God looks kindly on him for a life well lived and for the many lives such as ours that he deeply touched. Victoria and I will greatly miss him, and wish to share our thoughts and condolences with his family and many many friends.

  5. One of the sweetest, kindest souls and helpful doctor my family and I ever met. He will be sadly missed. My sincerest condolences.

  6. Dr. Davis was an amazing dermatologist. He was so caring, friendly and giving of his time and expertise. He was a true gentleman, with a gentle and kind soul. My sincerest condolences.

  7. I met Michael almost 50 years ago when he was a med student at Dalhousie and I was a (new) librarian. We hung out in Halifax and I will always remember him as a warm and caring man and am sorry I did not see him very often since I moved to Toronto several years ago. May his memory be a blessing.

  8. To Hyla, Rossie and families.
I am so sad to hear this.
    I loved Michael very much.
    My sincere condolences.
    Rosie and Mike Lisogurski

  9. My sincere condolences to the family of Dr. Michael Davis.
He was not only an amazing dermatologist, he was a wonderful, kind and most caring person. A true professional and gem. So fortunate to have known him.

  10. My deepest condolences to Hyla and family. He was such a great person, doctor and boss. So kind and sweet. This news is shocking and sad to me. My thoughts and prayers are with you Hyla.

  11. To the family of Dr Davis

Michael was not only kind, caring and a truly great dermatologist but he was really funny as well. We had many great laughs in the office during my decades of office visits for myself, with my elderly dad and my kids when they were young.
Sometimes the conversation was so much fun I am sure there were a few restless waiting patients by the time I left the office. My husband Terry also thought the world of Mike and had known him since med school. Terry always referred his patients to Michael knowing they would be well cared for. I cannot imagine ever having a more caring and exceptional derm than Dr Davis.
Our deepest sympathies for your loss

Jeamie and Terry Reingold (Dr Terry Reingold)

  12. To Hyla, Philip, Rozzie, Nordeau, Susie, David and their families

I was treated to Michael’s loving kindness in my late childhood in Saint John, and again as an adult in Toronto at his home with Hyla and their children and at Davis and Miller family gatherings. It is extraordinary to observe how wide was his reach in touching so many people so deeply during his too short life. I send love and condolences to the family.

    Shelley Miller
