DAVIS, Michael – We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Michael Garson Davis on November 26, 2021, in his home, surrounded by his family.
Originally from Saint John, New Brunswick, Michael had the opportunity to also live in Montreal, Ottawa, Halifax, Cardiff, and eventually settling in Toronto with his wife Hyla, to whom he was married for forty-four years.
Michael was a passionate and kind man who was well known for helping others. Whether it was through his work as a dermatologist, or fundraising for charity, or supporting his friends and family, Michael took on the role of helper with pure zeal. In his work, he went above and beyond for his patients, caring for them as though they were family.
Michael had many other passions, including travel and cycling. Michael got to indulge in both these passions in cycling trips with Hyla. They also cycled together in the Ride to Conquer Cancer for several years. They considered everything they did together to be an adventure.
Michael also loved to dance, and could also be seen enthusiastically cutting a rug any time a dance floor was available to him. Anyone who has ever seen Michael dance will remember the huge smile on his face that accompanied his exuberant footwork.
Michael’s greatest love, without question, was for his family, who felt that love in his every word and gesture, and who will be feeling the loss of it forever.
Devoted husband to Hyla. Loving father of Anna and Colin, Liron and Cameron, and Adam. Son to the late Abraham and Goldie Davis. Son-in-law to Sally and the late Lloyd Zerker. Brother to Philip, Roslyn and Nordau, and Susan and David. Brother-in-law to Steven and Joan, and Howard and Carole. Uncle and great-uncle to many nieces and nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews.
Heartfelt thanks to all the medical professionals and caretakers who provided so much support and comfort to Michael.
A private graveside service will be held for family. Donations can be made to the Saint John Jewish Historical Museum 506-633-1833 jewishmuseumsj.com/donations , The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation 416-946- 6560 thepmcf.ca/ , or the Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care 416-586-8203 www.tlcpc.org/.
