Obituary
It is with heavy hearts the family of Merv Cormier share his peaceful passing late Thursday night, November 4 th at the Loch Lomond Village. Born in Cap-Pelé, NB, on April 28 th , 1945, he was the son of the late Bélonie and Claira Cormier. Merv loved his family deeply, celebrating almost 52 years of marriage to his wife Dorilla in Saint John.
He is survived by his loving wife and 2 daughters, Jolyne (Kevin) Robertson and Nadine (Brian) Moreau. He leaves behind his 5 beloved grandchildren – Caden, Braylon, Lilian, Desmond and Simon. In addition, he is survived by his siblings Greta, Hélèna (Gerard), Guy (Alfreda), Russell, Néri, Michel and Gilles (Lise), as well as many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his wife’s siblings with whom he also formed close bonds over the years: Cam (Ron), Lou (Eukie), Loraine (Vic), Laurie (Francine), Clem (Lisette) and late Duffy (Julia).
Merv was passionate about many things and was often found outdoors. An avid birder, skilled photographer and expert gardener, he would sometimes lose himself when immersed in these hobbies. He was also a collector of many things, including hosta plants and stamps, and a lover of all music. Merv involved himself in several local clubs and organizations such as the Fundy Camera Club, the Saint John Naturalists Club and Fundy Gardeners, to name a few, holding a variety of titles or positions among these groups. However, his favourite title in recent years has always been “Pépère”.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Loch Lomond Village for their care and love of Merv over the last few years, and a special thanks to Heidi and Tina “Teetee”.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424). At Merv’s request, there will be no visitation. A Celebration of Life Gathering will take place in summer 2022, in Merv’s birthplace of Cap-Pelé. Please consider a donation in Merv’s memory to Parkinson Canada, Saint John Naturalists Club or the Loch Lomond Villa Foundation.
