Obituary
Merele M. (McKinnon) Shaw passed away peacefully at the Silver Willow Lodge, Nanton, Alberta on Monday, October 25, 2021 at the age of 92 years. Merele was predeceased by her husband Ken, parents Joyce and James McKinnon, two sisters and four brothers. She is survived by her daughters Jannefer (Gerald) Rutberg and Beverly (Wayne) Thiessen and sons Steve (Daylene) Shaw, Lewis (Beth) Shaw, Wes (Liz) Shaw, Allan (Monica) Shaw and Milt (Debbie) Shaw. Plus 14 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren, 2 brothers Alden and Don as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Merele and Ken were self employed farmers in their early years then opened up a successful upholstery and carpentry woodworking shop in Airdrie. In 1975 they moved to Brant, Alberta where they owned and operated the post office and grocery store till they retired to Creston, B.C in 1982. They moved back to Cayley in 1993. From Cayley they moved back to Brant for a number of years so family could help out with their care until Ken needed more extended care. Ken passed on Dec.4th, 2012. Merele was moved around for a number of years, mostly due to the Flood in High River in 2013, and finally settled in Nanton where she remained until her passing.
Merele will be placed in the Highwood Columbarium beside her husband Ken in the High River Cemetery. Donations can be made in Merele’s memory to the Mosquito Creek Foundation, Nanton, Alberta.
