Cottreau, Mary Pauline, 92 of the Meadows Home for Special Care, passed away peacefully on November 3rd, 2021. Born in the Yarmouth Light House on a cold winter day, January 10th, 1929, she was a daughter to the late Robert and Ethel (Amero) Nickerson, the assistant lighthouse keeper and his wife. Mary spent her first 14 years living at the light, moving not far away from where her twin brothers were born. Once her brothers were born, Mary had decided to forgo school to stay home and help raise them. She also raised a family of her own alongside her first husband, Robert Brannen, who passed away prematurely. She supplemented her income in childcare and housekeeping for some of the local family doctors. She then married the second love of her life, Don Cottreau, joining him in hotel management until her retirement. Mary is survived by her son, David Brannen; daughter, Donna Vandal (Eugene); stepson, Neal; grandchildren, Dawn, Kelly, Chad, Stephanie; great-grandchildren, Samuel, Zavier, Avril, Emily, Katie, Ashley and Jadent; brother, Doug Nickerson (Sherri Coldwell). She was predeceased by her first husband, Robert Brannen; second husband, Don Cottreau; son, George Brannen; step-daughter, Eva; siblings, Martha; Margaret, Gladys; Charles; June, and Harry. The arrangements have been entrusted to Sween
y’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. A private family service will be held at a later date with interment in the Chegoggin Cemetery.
