KYTE, Mary ‘Paula’ (née Cameron), of Barra Head, passed away peacefully at the Richmond Villa in St. Peter’s on December 24th, 2021, in her 86th year. Paula was born in Sydney, NS on July 22, 1935, the only child of Duncan and Tina (MacDonald) Cameron. She is survived by her husband of 62 years George William Kyte, children Val (Susan Patterson), Mary Ann (Dennis) Roberts, John (Hannah Zhang), and Andrew (Charlene Landry), her grandchildren Skye, Cameron, Elizabeth, James, Rory, Eilidh, Isobel, William and Ethan, and great-granddaughter Rowan.
As a young woman she attended Truro Normal College and worked as a teacher prior to marrying and starting a family. She had many friends in the small community where she grew up and made more as the family moved first to Calgary, then to Toronto, Moncton, St John’s, Scarborough and Montreal. In retirement, she finally realised her dream of returning to her childhood home, where she spent many good years in the company of lifelong friends whose love and support she cherished. She was a member of the former Immaculate Conception Parish in Barra Head and served many years as organist for the choir. Paula was always ready to welcome visitors with a big hug and her infectious laugh. She was always at her best when presiding over a household filled with food, drink and music. Her generosity, wisdom and warmth will be missed by all who knew her.
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at a later date pending the ability of the family to travel. Memorial donations may be made to the Dr. Kingston Memorial Community Health Centre in L’Ardoise. Condolences and donations may be sent to Green’s Funeral Home in Port Hawkesbury.
