Obituary of Mary Norma Boudreau
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Norma Boudreau, (88) that occurred on Sunday, June 6th, 2021, at home in Louisdale, surrounded by family. Norma was born on March 15th, 1933, in Samson’s Cove. She was the daughter of the late Edgar and Elizabeth (Martell) Samson. Over the years, she held numerous jobs such as a shoe store clerk, a waitress and she worked at Booth’s Fisheries.
On September 12th, 1955, she married Deseray Boudreau, the love of her life. Norma moved to Toronto with Deseray in 1957 for many years. They eventually settled in Louisdale. Norma lived a wonderful life in large part because of the love of her husband, Deseray. They were together for 70 years. He was the centre of her universe, and she was the centre of his. In her younger days, she enjoyed nothing more than catering to him. Once her health started failing, the roles were reversed, and he always made sure to take very good care of her. Their love was one found in fairy tales.
Norma loved to be surrounded by family and friends, especially at her cottage. She enjoyed having a glass of red wine and playing cards. She loved being able to feed people and take care of others. She was always the last to sit down and eat at gatherings because she needed to ensure that everyone had enough to eat. Even though she was very fussy, Norma loved cooking and baking for her family. We will sure miss her rotini salad, apple pies and double jam cookies.
Norma always had the best of intentions and a heart of gold. She made everyone smile and feel loved. Her thoughtfulness and compassion for others were traits that everyone admired. She constantly inquired about the people she loved, and she never missed a birthday or an anniversary. She would underline certain words in her cards to ensure that you understood the message she was sending. She knew how to make you feel loved and special.
Norma was a valued member of the Louisdale Lioness Club. She was also a devout Catholic. Her rosary beads were never far, and she loved going to mass or watching it on TV.
Norma didn’t have any biological children, but she was a second mother to many, especially to the Pierce crew. Aunt Norma or Matante leaves behind a legacy of love. She showed us how to be humble and kind, but most importantly she showed us the importance of taking care of one another.
Norma is survived by her adoring husband Deseray Boudreau, Louisdale; sister Yvonne Pierce, Samson’s Cove; sisters-in-law Elizabeth Henri (Don), Louisdale, Carol (Frank) Shanahan, Vancouver, and her beloved friend Bernice (Roy) Jeffrey, Louisdale. She also leaves to mourn numerous nephews, nieces, God children, great nieces and great nephews.
Norma was predeceased by brothers Paulie (Jeanette) Samson and Alphonse Samson; brothers-in-law Wilson Pierce, Arthur Boudreau, Raymond Boudreau, Willard Bob (Leta) Boudreau, sisters-in-law Cecilia Sampson, Amelia (Tony) Feretti, Lucy (Edward) Jeffrey and Verona (Jack) Hillier.
A special thanks to Doctor MacNeil, Doctor Cooper, nurses and staff at the Strait Richmond Hospital, nurses and staff of home care along with everyone who took great care of her allowing her to spend her final days at home.
Cremation has taken place however due to COVID there will be no visitation. A Funeral Mass and private family burial will be held on Saturday, June 12th, 2021 at St. Louis Parish Church with Father Duncan MacIsaac officiating (attendance is by invitation only due to COVID restrictions).
