Mary Louise Harding Saturday July 24th 2021

Life Story: Mary Harding
Mary was born in the small seaside town of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia to Edgar and Neil Harding on April 18, 1932. She is Roman Catholic and has always been a very spiritual person. Mary attended Saint Francis Xavier University (Saint Martha’s) and eventually went on for her Masters in Social Work through the University of Toronto. She’s practiced as a clinical social worker in Alberta before moving to Stratford, Ontario where she continued her life’s vocation with Family Services Perth-Huron. She loved her work and has been a strong advocate for those most vulnerable.
Mary’s life was richly blessed with the many people she held dear. She was from a particularly close family and stayed in touch with brothers: Laurie and Ed, sisters: Helen and Joan, and her beloved cousin, Bunny. She has many happy memories of time spent at the family cottage in Raynardton where she loved catching up with her eight nieces and nephews. After leaving home she maintained a life time correspondence with her mother, a woman she admired and held in great esteem.
Mary is a person who has passionately loved life, nature, friends (especially Susan, a former colleague and kindred spirit) and has always had a way of seeing the best in others. Independent and private, caring and thoughtful, Mary takes joy in the simple things and has a wonderful sense of fun and humour. She’s partial to small, friendly dogs and the movie, “The Sound of Music.”
Mary has an outstanding singing voice and participated in a variety of musicals; she also taught music and played both guitar and piano. She continues to enjoy instrumental and classical music. She’s been a great reader as well as a scholar, a very deep thinker who has always had a special affinity for the ocean, Nova Scotia, and the mountains. She would visit her sisters in Boston each year and has always taken pleasure in walking, swimming, and going for drives in the country.
Mary has always taken great pleasure in the company of others, and truly has a gift of bringing out the very best in the people in her life. She responds to joy.
