Mary Jean Smith 19302021

Mary Jean Smith
The family of Mary Jean Smith is sad to announce her passing
at the DECH on July 16, 2021. Mom was born on August 20,
1930, at the family farm on Kempt Road in Broadlands, PQ to the late
William and Letitia (MacLelland) Gregoire.
Jean, as she was known by all, is survived by her daughters
Mary Lue Springer (Reginald), Carol Ann English (Fuzzy), Wendy Smith
and her son Curry (Krista). Mom also leaves behind to mourn
her grandchildren Ben Springer (Tara), Katie Springer (Oliver), Conor
Critchlow (Abbey), Meghan Critchlow (Jordie), Spencer Smith and by her
great grandchildren, Harrison and Reggie Glencross as well as many
close nieces and nephews.
Jean was predeceased by her husband Francis Thompson Smith in
2016. Mom was the last surviving member of her immediate
family and was predeceased by her sisters Greta and Betty as well as
brothers Mack, Rollie, Lorne, Keith, Glenford, Burns, Raymond, Bliss,
Murray, Harvey, and Jackie.
Jean was a faithful and involved supporter of the First
United Church and a life-long member of the UCW in Campbellton for
many years. She loved being outdoors whether walking,
skiing, or gardening. She had a true green thumb and her flower
gardens were proof of that. There was nothing like a good
game of 45’s to finish off the day and one better be on
their toes when sitting across the table from mom! She was a
great cook and baker (a real Gregoire trait) and one never left the
table hungry. Mom also liked to be warm and visitors knew enough not
to wear a sweater during the months of October to May.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Parkland
Shannex, her doctors, and nurses of 3SW who all took such wonderful
care of her.
Jean’s service will be held at Wilmot United Church
on Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at 2 pm with Rev. Ellen Beairsto
officiating. Due to the current health restrictions, please contact
