Mary Jean “Jeanne” Boertjes
1947-2021
Boertjes, Mary
Jean; It is with heavy hearts that we
announce the passing of Mary Jean Boertjes (age 73) on January 30,
2021, after a long battle with cancer at the Colchester East Hants
Health Centre. She was predeceased by her parents, Audrey
and Elmer Angevine and her sister, Gail Oliver. She is lovingly
remembered by her husband and truest companion of 51 years, John;
children, René (Jamie), Nicole (Dave), Stephanie (Jeff) and
Adam (Sarah); grandchildren, Ryan, Holly, Austin, Hannah, and Caleb;
brothers, Robert (Debbie); Richard (Shelley) and as well as many
cousins, nieces and nephews. Although born in Amherst, Nova
Scotia, Jeanne was raised in Mississauga, Ontario. While
visiting her grandparents (Mildred and Frank Mayne) in Westchester,
Jeanne met the love of her life at a bowling league night in Truro.
Thus began her lifelong commitment as a wife, mother, and
grandmother. Together, John and Jeanne raised their four
children instilling a strong work ethic as the family worked together
on the farm raising hogs and growing grain. Jeanne also
spent close to thirty years working as an office manager at Nystone
Chemicals until it closed and then worked as substitute
administrator’s assistant for the Chignecto Central Regional
Centre for Education. Jeanne was a devout Christian, strong
in her faith and a long-time member of the John Calvin Christian
Reformed Church where, over the years, she served as a deacon, clerk,
and treasurer. She was an avid reader, enjoyed spending her
time doing crafts and loved to be surrounded by her family. Jeanne
shall be remembered with endearing love. Special thanks to Dr.
Stephanie Snow (oncologist), Dr. Bruce Philips (family physician), the
Palliative Care Team, and the VON for their excellent care. In lieu of
flowers, donations can be made to the John Calvin Christian Reformed
Church, The Palliative Care Unit of the Colchester East Hants Health
Centre, or the Victoria Order of Nurses (VON). Private family
funeral service will be held 2 pm Thursday, February 4, 2021, at the
John Calvin Christian Reformed Church, Pastor Nick Baas officiating.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mattatall~Varner Funeral Home,
