Obituary
Martinus Siardus (Martin) Siemonsma
June 10, 1954 – December 2, 2021
It is with much sadness that we write this. Martin passed away peacefully with his sister Tineke, nephew Daniel, brother-in-law Ernest, and close friend Rob MacMillan at his side at Nanaimo Regional Hospital on December 2nd. Martin has been in much pain the last few weeks and while in Emergency at Nanaimo regional Hospital was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer. He can now rest in peace. The staff and volunteers at the Nanaimo Emergency and Palliative Care facilities were exemplary and we thank them for their passion and support.
Martin was born in Bolward, The Netherlands the youngest of eight children. He attended agricultural school in Holland. In 1972 he immigrated to Canada and worked on farms in Ontario and Port Alberni for over 40 years. Martin was a hard worker, was jovial with his co-workers, and had a general enjoyment for his work. Martin had an innate love for animals and with help from his friends Rob and Peggy rescued several dogs and cats that he was very dear to. He was a very kind and good man and will be missed by many.
We encourage people to donate to a charity of their choice in memory of Martin.
