Mrs. Marlene Dorothy Rose Soychak, age 84 years, passed away peacefully with her husband by her side on September 25, 2021. Marlene was born May 18, 1937 in Fort William to Albert S. and Violet Humphrey. She attended Francis Street School and Fort William Vocational School. Marlene was employed at the Bank of Montreal. Her life long dream was to be a teacher and she worked to meet her goal, teaching at Selkirk High School, Lakehead University and Confederation College, retiring from the College in 1996. Marlene was a member of St. Mary’s ACW and of St. Thomas Anglican Church. She enjoyed her golfing girls, bridge girls and Rumoli girls. She loved her summers at Cloud Lake spent with friends, neighbours and family. Marlene is survived by husband John S. Soychak, son John A. Soychak, wife Leejah, grandsons John Paul and Landon and Amber Walker; son Stephen Soychak, wife Lori, grandchildren Aliya, Jayden, and Kye of Collingwood, Ontario; by brother Albert (Jim) Humphrey, wife Mary, nephews Michael and Marie Aline Humphrey and children; Lauren and Erik and Phil Humphrey of Ottawa; Bert Jarrett of Washington; and Gary Jarrett of Calgary. Michael and Andrea Mores and family of Illinois, Kathy Mores and Dan Berg and family of Illinois, John and Lela and daughter Anna Mores of Turin, Italy; Maryann Mores daughter Marissa and family of Texas, Frank and Ann Mores and daughter Elizabeth of Massachusetts. Marlene was predeceased by her parents, sister Carolyn, half sister Ethel Jarrett and Ethel’s husband Charles Jarrett, Frank Jarrett and brother and sister-in-law Frank and Anne Mores. A public visitation will be held at Blake’s Funeral Chapel Thursday, September 30th between 6 – 8 pm. A private family service will be held at St. Thomas’ Anglican Church the following day. Donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada or St. Joseph’s Care Group.
