Obituary
Marion Joyce McIntyre (Wilson)
September 19, 1931 – September 18, 2021
It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of our mother Marion. She was lovingly known as “Nana” or “Grandma”. Sadly she succumbed to lung cancer the day before her 90th birthday.
She is survived by her daughter Joyce Solnes, son in law Darryl, her son Fred McIntyre, daughter Debbie Murdoch and son in law Rob, grandchildren Carley and Alyssa Murdoch and Alex McIntyre. She is predeceased by her husband Stanley McIntyre who passed away in 2018.
Laura and Melville Wilson (her parents) moved from Ontario and purchased a farm in Wiseton, Saskatchewan. There they raised 13 children, Marion was the ninth child. They were a hard-working farming family. We always enjoyed listening to the stories she would tell us about growing up on a farm and all the silly antics she had with her siblings. She had such fond memories of her childhood. Nana moved to BC in the 1950’s where she met and married our dad Stan McIntyre in 1958. They settled in Burnaby and raised their family there, then moved to Maple Ridge in the 1990’s to be closer to their grandchildren.
Nana was one tough cookie with a creative and competitive spirit. Growing up on a farm in the prairies taught her how to be jack of all trades. She had a strong work ethic, loved a challenge and could tackle absolutely anything. She could reupholster furniture, sew, crochet, knit, repair any appliance just to name a few of her many talents. She loved a good joke and was always quick to the punch, her witty humour and light hearted outlook on life always kept us laughing. A die hard Bingo player, she never missed her Saturday Night Bingo until Covid 19 hit. Nana loved watching sports such as baseball, curling and hockey and made a great armchair coach. Her favourite team was the Toronto Blue Jays. On her 85th birthday we surprised her with a trip to her first MLB game in Seattle against the Blue Jays. The trip became an annual event after that.
Spring was her favorite time of year – that was the start of baseball season and gardening. She couldn’t wait for winter to end so she could get outside and plant her vegetable garden and flower baskets. We looked forward to Nana’s plentiful harvest of veggies.
Everywhere we turn there are memories of you. Love you Nana.
