Obituary
Marianne Schulz January 12, 1936 – March 24, 2021
After fighting a long, courageous battle with cancer, our beloved wife, mother and grandmother passed away peacefully at Sechelt Hospital on Wednesday, March 24th.
Marianne leaves behind her husband of over 61 years, Peter, as well as children Susanne and Michael (Lisa), and grandchildren Myles and Mikaylin. She is also survived by her sisters Ursula (Hans) and Margrit (Helmut), nephews Markus (Niki) and Christoph (Hilary) and niece Anya (Michael).
Marianne was born in Hamburg, Germany where she graduated high school and trained in business administration at a well known import export firm. She emigrated to Canada in 1959 to follow Peter where they married and settled in Vancouver to raise a family. In North Vancouver, Marianne was a stay-at-home mom until her kids went to school at which time she volunteered in the school library. She and Peter later owned and operated a successful import and wholesale distribution business until they sold the company and retired.
Moves took them from North Vancouver to Lions Bay and then to Gibsons where they retired to enjoy Coast life. Marianne was an avid cook, baker and gardener. She and Peter could be found at 4pm every afternoon having their customary coffee and cake at the kitchen table and watching the birds in the front yard. Marianne loved entertaining, reading English murder mysteries and walking the family dogs along the beach. Her feisty and generous spirit will be greatly missed by her family, friends and neighbours.
Profound gratitude goes to the paramedics and all of Marianne’s doctors including those at the BC Cancer Agency, but especially to her family physician, Dr. McCall, and the wonderful team at Sechelt Hospital who cared for her during those last difficult weeks and who also supported her family in such a kind, compassionate, caring way.
Due to Covid-19, a Celebration of Life will be postponed until later this year once we are permitted to gather and honour her life in person.
In lieu of flowers, donations gratefully accepted at the BC Cancer Agency or the Sechelt Hospital Foundation.
