Marian Viola Irene Celsie (nee Smith)
January 30, 1929 – November 19, 2021
Marian passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family in her 92nd year, after a life very well-lived.
Marian was born to Vila (nee Snively) and James Smith in Caledonia, Ontario and grew up on a farm during the great depression, which would forever define her character.
Proud Mother of Arnold (Diane) and Blaine (Karen). Devoted Granny to Laura (Keith), Lisa (Derick), Amy (Joe), Christie, and Brett (Kaila).Doting Great-Granny to Sean (Harmony), Eric (Hailey), Keegan, Mya, Gabby, Nolan, Wyatt, Rylee, Lars, Caleb, Axel, George, Samuel and Grayson. Cherished Aunt Mame to Ian (Cara), Vivien and Nora. Marian is survived by her sister, Evelyn (Harry). She was pre-deceased by her beloved son, Arnold, her siblings Donna, Larry and Norm and her treasured Great-Grandson, Wyatt.
Marian was a very active, long-time member of her church, Bayview Glen, where she not only
was a member, but also a Deaconess and avid volunteer who ran and facilitated countless
programs, services and events including, but not limited to; Sunday School, Seniors luncheons,
Bible Study, Strawberry Socials and ESL classes.
As a result of her dedication to her church and community, Marian received the much-deserved
Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Medal in honour of her volunteer work.
Marian called Toronto her home for her entire adult life and was a life-long friend to so many.
She loved everyone, and everywhere she went, everyone loved her. A natural care-giver, Marian was not a rich woman, but one of the most generous people you could ever hope to meet. She would have given anything and done anything, for anyone, anytime. Fiercely independent right up until the last few months, she always had her hair done and her own unique style. She was very musical, loved animals, playing board games, singing, reading, doing crosswords, volunteering, travel, nature shows and above all else, God and her family.
Marian left an impression everywhere she went, and nowhere more than on those who knew her, loved her and were fortunate enough to be loved by her.
She will be missed beyond words.
We would like to thank all of those who took part in helping to care for Marian in her final
months – we couldn’t have done it without you.
