On March 29, 2021, Jean Evans, nee Margery Jean Sheppard, died at 83 years of age at Sarnia, Ontario. Jean was born in Montreal, Quebec on September 19, 1937 to Franklin Alexander and Dorothy Marie (McKay) Sheppard. Jean was predeceased by her beloved husband Arthur Keith Evans in 2014 after 57 years of marriage. Jean and Art met at MacDonald College of McGill University from which Jean graduated with a teaching certificate. Jean was the proud mother of her five children and their spouses Catherine and Barry Petherick, Cynthia and Ward MacDougall, Michael and Dianne Evans, Susan and Drew Shutek, and David and Leanne Evans. Jean especially enjoyed being a grandmother to Lincoln McCormick, Chelsea Duarte, Andrew Coates, William Kramer, Daniel Kramer, Evan Coates, Christy-Lynn Collingwood, Stephen Evans, Jonah Evans, Caleb Evans, Tynice MacDougall, and David, Michael, and Jennifer Petherick; and a great-grandmother to their children. All of these she loved and touched deeply. After her family, Jean’s greatest passion was music. An accomplished pianist and organist, Jean led church choirs and instilled a deep love of classical music in her family. Jean’s love of children was evident when she returned to college and switched careers to Early Childhood Education in mid-life. Jean’s interests also included watching opera and ballet, golfing, camping, skiing, playing bridge, baking, following politics, and cheering on sports teams in friendly competition with Art. A celebration of Jean’s life will be planned and communicated when it is possible for family and friends to gather. Memorial contributions may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
