Obituary of Margaret Lois JAQUISH
October 20, 1947 – Lethbridge, Alberta
March 6, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret Jaquish, age 73. Marg, or Granny as many knew her, lost her battle with cancer on March 6th 2021.
Margaret grew up in Calgary and lived in Crossfield and Airdrie. She would always tell us that the prairies were her favourite place in the whole world. Marg always had a knack with children. Working in both the school system and daycare she found it easy to bond and engage with the children. She retired with her husband spending part time in what she liked to call her garden suite cuddling her dog Coco and the other time on Vancouver Island where she could golf, torture dad with touring every antique shop, and tend to her garden even in the winter. Granny loved attending her grandchildren’s events and cheering them on to the point of getting us almost kicked out of arenas, baseball diamonds, and school gyms.
Margaret was an active member of the communities she belonged to. She volunteered with the Airdrie Food Bank, practiced pottery, and loved golfing with the ladies at Collicutt Siding Golf Course in Crossfield. In Arbutus Ridge on Vancouver Island she made many friends and spent her time painting ceramics, playing Bingo, and walking with her club.
She is survived by her husband Rod; her children Mandy (Jason) Nolan and Josh (Jackie) Jaquish; and her grandchildren Emily and Ty Nolan, and Mollie, Mackenzie, and Amy Jaquish; and many brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews who were very special to her.
Death is nothing at all. It does not count. I have only slipped away into the next room. Nothing has happened. Everything remains exactly as it was. I am I, and you are you, and the old life that we lived so fondly together is untouched, unchanged. Whatever we were to each other, that we are still. Call me by the old familiar name. Speak of me in the easy way which you always used. Put no difference into your tone. Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow: Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed together. Play, smile, think of me, pray for me. Let my name be ever the household word that it always was. Let it be spoken without an effort,
without the ghost of a shadow upon it. Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was. There is absolute and unbroken continuity. What is this death but a negligible accident? Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? I am but waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just around the corner. All is well. Nothing is hurt; nothing is lost. One brief moment and all will be as it was before. How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting when we meet again!
