Stewart, Margaret Borden – In loving memory of Margaret Borden Stewart, nee Silliker, who passed away peacefully on February 9, 2021 at the home of her oldest son, Bruce and his wife, Amy. Margaret (aka “Marg” and “Marnie”) is survived by her three boys, Bruce, Alan and Scott; eight grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. Margaret was born and raised in Amherst, Nova Scotia, one of three daughters to Isabel and Victor. She moved to Ottawa in her teens, where she graduated from nursing school and met her future husband and lifelong partner, James “Jim” Stewart. They raised their family in a wonderfully close neighborhood in Dorval, Quebec, making friendships that endured throughout their lifetimes. Marg was the community nurse for many of the neighbors even while suspending her professional career to look after her family at home. Once the boys were grown, Marg and Jim purchased a small business in Ottawa and ran it successfully until their retirement in 1991. They then returned home to Nova Scotia to care for Marg’s mother, Isabel. Upon her passing, Marg and Jim moved from Kentville to Truro to be close to Bruce and family. Margaret courageously accepted the loss of her dear husband in 2008 and determined to establish her independence. She made new friends, drove herself around town and lived happily until cancer took her at the age of 84. Margaret will be fondly remembered for her kindness, her love of life, her infectious laugh and her bright-coloured outfits. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
The family would like to thank Victoria Order of Nurses for the incredible nursing and homecare support.
Donations may be made to VON Colchester East Hants.
