Obituary
Margaret ‘Girly’ was born on August 2, 1950 on Cote First Nation. She was raised on Cote First Nation where she achieved her primary education at Cote Day School, St. Philip’s School and later at Qu’Appelle Indian Residential School. Her secondary education was acquired at Brandon University where she obtained a Bachelor of Education (1980) and at SIFC (U of R) where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics ‘with distinction’ (1990). Margaret was employed at First Nations University of Canada (SIFC) from 1980 until her retirement in 2010.
Pre-deceased by her paternal grandparents; Frank and Helen Cote; maternal grandparents; George and Sarah Stevenson; Parents John F. and Madelaine M. Cote; brothers Leonard (Boycha) Cote and Lawrence Cote (Geraldine); a sister in infancy Frances Cote: Her sons Gregory Cote and Albert (Beaver) Cote: grandson Shaundel Aisacan: husband Garnet Lerat; and her sisters/cousins whom she missed dearly Isabelle Pratt and Martha Keewatin. Her biological mother Victoria Crane (nee Whitehawk): sister Leona Hather (Kenneth) and brother Lesley Crane.
She is survived by her eldest son Brian Ivan Cote and only daughter Sabrina Cote (Jesus): brother Patrick Cote (Elizabeth); her partner Blair Pascal; biological sister Mariah (Crane) Diamond; favorite sister-in-law Mabel Cote; sister/cousin Emily Cote; aunt Audrey Cochrane: grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she truly loved, her baby Timeeka Cote, Brandon Lamar Jr.; Larissa Ironstand (Gordon), Adrian Cote, Tristan Cote, Cheyenne Cote, Abigail Cote; Sky Cote (Shay), Cody Cote, Keahanna Cote, Dallas Aisacan: great-grandchildren Ethan and Jamieson Ironstand, Jeremiah Cote, Xavier Cooper and Sabiha Cote: and the ones she took as little brothers and sisters; Joan ‘Andy’ Whitehawk (Dwayne), George ‘Crow’ Cote, Ted ‘Killjoy’ Cote (Agnes), Norinne ‘Toonose’ Cote (Thomas) and Lynn Cote. Margaret was a loving, caring person who loved all her nieces and nephews equally. She loved her extended family and the people she adopted into her family. Margaret will be truly missed…Kisawēnimikō kika-wāpamikō mīnawā kīwētino pinēhsīhkwē (We love you we will see you again Northern Thunderbird Woman).
