Obituary for Malcolm ‘Mac’ Douglas Payne
With heavy hearts, we regret to announce the passing of Malcolm (Mac) Payne. Best friend and beloved husband of Margo for 50 years. Loving father of Shelly Pavan (Sean) and Shannon Praden (Yannic). Adoring Papa of Nathaniel, Sophie, Sasha, Claire, and Julian.
On Wednesday, December 1st, Malcolm in his 75th year left us and is now reunited with his family – parents Robert and Thomasina Payne, sister Carole Anne McDermid, brother Don Payne, parents-in-law Timothy and Peggy O’Connor, brothers-in-law Gerald O’Connor, Donald O’Connor, Gary Burgess, Mickey O’Connor and Harold Garland, and son-in-law Mario Pavan.
Loving brother of Heather Burgess, and brother-in-law of Pat Garland, Dennis and Geraldine O’Connor, Larry O’Connor and Carol Hochreiter, Ilene O’Connor, Marnie Conlon and Norm Leonard, Gail and Don McQueen, Theresa and David Lyon, and Ed McDermid. Uncle to many nieces and nephews in whom he always took an avid interest.
Malcolm spent his career at Firestone and Cooksville Tire, during which time he and Margo enjoyed many wonderful trips with colleagues and friends, always with visits to golf clubs along the way. He also enjoyed many ski trips and was a ski patroller in his younger years.
His greatest passion was his daughters and their families, especially his grandchildren. He was an active spectator in their many activities and beyond proud of their accomplishments.
Malcolm took great pleasure in going for long drives and was known for his “Magical Mystery Tours”. He loved gadgets, always buying in threes for Margo, Shelly, and Shannon. Malcolm was an avid sports fan and enjoyed attending events in person or following along on the television and radio. He loved entertaining family and friends and was famous for his annual Boxing Day parties. Malcolm was a former member of Dundas Valley Golf and Country Club and the Dundas Legion.
Many thanks to the staff at Wentworth Lodge, especially Denise and all the Recreation staff, Doctor Johns, and the staff on Lilac Lane for their friendship and care for the past 12 years. To his best friend, the late Harold Garland, for always being there for him, to Larry O’Connor, Don McQueen, his sister Heather, and the O’Connor “gypsies” for their many visits and goodies, we are forever grateful.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Malcolm’s Life will be held on Saturday, December 11th from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. in the Upper Banquet Hall of the Dundas Legion, 280 King Street West, Dundas. Covid protocols must be followed. A private interment will take place at a later date. Donations to Wentworth Lodge Recreation Department or Good Shepherd are sincerely appreciated.
Always in our hearts, your loving family
