Lydia ‘Pearl’ Howell
May 31, 1932 – January 25, 2021
It is with great sadness that the family of Pearl Howell (nee Tucker) announces her peaceful passing at the age of 88 at Lakeside Homes in Gander, NL. She leaves to mourn with loving memories her daughter Maria (Bert Frampton) and son Gary. Also leaving to mourn are her sister Charlotte Lilly, longtime cherished friend Geraldine Samson, many half brothers and sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and brother-in-law Walter (Josephine) Howell. Pearl was predeceased by her husband Jabez; parents Albert and Juanita Tucker, brother Joseph (Myrtle), sister Gladys Patey (Ted) and sister Gloria Notaro (Anthony).
Pearl may have been small in stature but she was mighty big in personality. She had a quiet unassuming way about her but her quick wit and humour came out often and usually when you least expected it. She loved the outdoors, whether it be spending time at the cabin or travelling in the trailer with Jabe, Maria and Gary (and often with friends of the kids in tow) and later when the kids had outgrown travelling, they travelled with the late Uncle Bill and Aunt Stella Howell. Her love for animals was exceptional and that is a good thing considering the animals that tended to show up at the house. She worked hard all her life and tackled most things life threw at her with great force and quiet patience. About the only thing she never managed to get the hang of was driving and that was probably a good thing considering her terrible sense of direction.
In keeping with Pearl’s wishes cremation has taken place and a private family service will take place at Stacey’s Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 27, 2021. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Pearl’s memory to the Gander SPCA, the Alzheimer Society NL or a charity of one’s choice.
The family would like to express our sincere appreciation to the staff of Lakeside Homes Special Care and Nursing Care Units for the years of compassion, care and support provided to Pearl.
When she had to move from her senior’s cottage into long term care this was found in amongst her belongings written in her handwriting and it is so Pearlie!
“Remember me with smiles and laughter. For if you remember me with tears you do not remember me at all. Love Pearl”
