It is with profound sadness that we announce Louise Gamache (nee Smithers), our dearly beloved Wife, Mom, Grandma, Sister, Aunt, Cousin and Friend, passed away on July 25, 2021. Following a brief illness bravely borne, Louise took her leave on her terms, peacefully, surrounded by her loving family. Described as vivacious, fun loving, joyous and mischievous, Louise left her mark on all those whose lives were enriched by her friendship.
Mourning her untimely passing are her husband and love of her life, Paul Gamache, her first born son Steven, her beloved daughter Katy (Matt), her faithful son David, and her loving Gamache daughters, Angela (Carl) Lisa, Chantelle (Eric) and Elaine.
Pre-deceased by her mother, Bernadette Smithers, Louise is survived by her father John Smithers, her sisters, Bernadette (Greg), Ann, and Colette, her brothers John (Karen) and Eamon (Emma) and her Gamache siblings, Doris (Andy), Roger (Pat) and Lynne (Rob). She is also survived by her adoring grandchildren who brought her immense joy. Affectionately known as Aunty Lou, she will be greatly missed by her numerous nieces and nephews. Also left to mourn her passing is her large village of friends, especially Kathy (John) and Melanie (Bill).
Born March 21,1964, in Dublin Ireland, Louise was one of 6 siblings, and the youngest daughter of John and Bernadette (late) Smithers. Louise had a joie de vivre that was infectious and immediately drew people to her. Louise enjoyed year-round sports activities with Paul as they travelled, which took them on many adventures over their years together. She emigrated to Canada with her family in 1977 and enjoyed a prosperous career in the oil and gas sector in Calgary.
On behalf of Paul and Louise’s family we would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Dr. Richard Lee Ying and the team at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre, to the Community Paramedics, and to the Palliative Care Team for their exceptional care and compassion. We especially thank nurse Jenna Haugrud who was partner, coach and friend to Louise’s family carers.
A private interment and Celebration of Life will be held in the near future. In lieu of flowers, Louise requested a donation be made in her name to the Calgary Homeless Foundation, a cause that was near and dear to her heart (www.pledgeling.com/organizations/43-1634280-0026687/calgary-homeless-foundation).
