Obituary
With much sadness, the family of Lois Greene wishes to announce the passing of our dear Mother on Friday, September 3, 2021. She was surrounded by family and love at the end.
Lois was born on Friday, February 13, 1931, the oldest child of John and Margaret Hubka. She was raised during the great depression and followed by the war. There she learned the value of hard work, sacrifice, and the importance of friendship. Indeed, she taught us through example that the true currency of wealth is friendship. By that standard she passed as an extremely wealthy person. She loved her family, she loved her friends, and she loved her Carmangay.
Upon completion of high school, Lois went to comptometer school in Calgary, and she enjoyed working for a grain company in Calgary for a couple of years.
In 1950 Lois married Lloyd Greene and began farming in the Bowville area east of Carmangay. They were a part of what they called “Greeneville.” Five families of Greene’s’ within two and a half miles of each other. Lois was the last member of that generation of Greenville.
Mom always had a love of sport and played softball, curling and other sports as a child, and watched just about all of her children’s sport endeavours. Gordie Howe was her iconic player and she continued to watch sports until the end.
So many good times were had, camping at Chain Lakes, New Years Eve dances, and just being with friends.
Lois is predeceased by her parents; husband Lloyd; brother David and sister Joanne. She is survived by one sister Dorthey in Surrey B.C.; children Clayton, Collin (Kathy), Gwen (Bob Beattie) and Brent (Nina); nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
We also wish to express our gratitude to the amazing staff of the Fairmount Extendicare Lethbridge and prior to that the Piyami Lodge in Picture Butte. They were professional, caring and dignified throughout her final years. Although we are sad to say goodbye, we are so grateful for her time here. Enjoy being back with your friends, and their music and as they sang at the end of one of your favorite shows, Don Messer’s Jubliee…..Until we meet again.
The family has made the decision to have a service later when Covid restrictions are less. We will be thrilled to have as many of her friends and neighbours as possible to have a true celebration of life. For those who would want to watch the memorial video for Mom. The link is youtu.be/HMa7jqwrx-4
In leu of flowers the family respectfully asks that donation can be made to the Canadian Diabetic Association, 6223 2 St SE #220, Calgary, AB T2H 1J5, or the United Church of Carmangay restoration program, 304 Whitney St, Carmangay, AB T0L 0N0.
