Obituary of Leon Harold Shantz
Went to be with his Lord on Thursday, December 16, 2021 at the age of 86 years.
Beloved husband of Virginia “Ruth” Shantz for over eight years. Predeceased by his wife Ruth Shantz (nee Roth) in 2007. Loving father to Perry Shantz, Penny (John) Penticost, grandfather to Kylie Penticost (Michael Matura), Brooke Penticost (Josh Molnar) and Joel Penticost (Kayla Starr). Step-father to Philip (Anne) Shantz, Debbie (Don) Winger, Kathryn Emerson as well as several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Leon is also survived by his siblings, Glen (Betty) Shantz, Carson (Gail) Shantz, Peter (Wendy) Shantz and his sister-in-law Ruth Shantz. Predeceased by his brother Vernon Shantz and his parents Jacob and Nettie (nee Groff) Shantz.
Leon had a career as a dedicated truck driver working with Carling/Molson for over 40 years. He was a devoted member of First Mennonite Church and also attended Kitchener Gospel Temple with his wife Virginia “Ruth”. As a hobby, Leon enjoyed tinkering with old cars, he enjoyed hunting with his brothers and in his later years, enjoyed travelling together with Ruth.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, to attend the visitation and memorial service for Leon, personal face coverings are required and relatives and friends must register (RSVP) at www.erbgood.com or by calling the funeral home. Visitation will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The Memorial service to celebrate Leon’s life and faith will be held in the chapel of the funeral home on Wednesday, December 29 at 1:00 pm. Private family interment will be held at First Mennonite Cemetery, Kitchener.
