Obituary of Leo Antila
Leo Nestor Antila
1931-2021
It is with great sadness that the family of Leo Antila announce his passing on June 27, 2021, in his 91st year, at the Temiskaming Lodge with his son Jack at his side.
Leo was born in Kirkland Lake Ont and lived in Dane before moving to Larder Lake where he spent much of his youth and young adult years. Here he met and married Jeannine (Coutu), his spouse of 56 years. Leo was active in Larder volunteering at the Larder Ski Club, sitting on town council, bowling. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and spending family time swimming at the beach. He often called himself the “#1 partridge hunter”.
He worked at Kerr Addison Gold Mines for 16 years in the Assay Lab, until finding his calling with London Life as an insurance agent for 23 years, first in Larder then moving his family to New Liskeard in 1971. He loved his job until his retirement at the age of 57 when he and Jeannine began spending their winters in Florida.
One of his real pleasures was being an active member of the Lions Clubs, both in Larder and New Liskeard for over 50 years. One of the jobs he enjoyed the most as a Lions member was playing Santa during the Christmas holidays. He brought joy to many in this role.
Leo was predeceased by his loving wife Jeannine (Coutu), his parents Nestor and Olga, and his grandson Carter. He is survived by his son Sam (Pam) in Thompson, Mb., daughter Linda (Tony) Polyck in Vancouver, son Jack (Shelley) in New Liskeard; his grandchildren, Crystal, Jeff and Jennifer, Julia and Christopher, and Taylor; his great-grandchildren Colton, Theo, Mila, and Wyatt.
There will be a Lions service to honour Leo’s life on July 24th, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. followed by a celebration until 3:00 p.m. at the Perrin Funeral Chapel (128 Whitewood Avenue West, New Liskeard, ON P0J 1P0). All precautions will be in place and masks will be mandatory.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Temiskaming Lodge and Dr. Davies for the wonderful care given to our dad. He very much enjoyed his time there. In lieu of flowers, please make any donations to the New Liskeard Lions Club or any Lions Club of your choice.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Leo
