Laura Marie Leighton
1923-2021
Laura was born in Winnipeg,
Manitoba, the daughter of Kenneth MacKenzie and Muriel (Brown)
MacKenzie. She received her early education in the Halifax public
school System and was a graduate of Dalhousie
University.
Laura married the late Dr.
Claude Leighton following World War II and is survived by her
children, Bob, Ross, Linda and John; four special friends, Sue,
Millie, Catherine and Peggy; eight grandchildren and six great
grandchildren.
While living in Moncton, Laura
was active in the University Women’s Club, the Beaver
Curling Club and the Gyrette Club. She worked for many years as an
advocate for Children with Learning Disabilities and served in
different capacities on the boards of both the Moncton Public Library
and the Regional Library.
She was a Paul Harris Fellow and
a member of St. John’s United
Church.
She was predeceased by her
husband, Claude, her parents and her only brother, Kenneth. Laura was
the last surviving member of her immediate
family.
Due to COVID-19, a service to
celebrate Laura’s life will take place at a later
date.
The family would like to express
their sincere gratitude to Susan Dixson and the staff at SerenaCare
for the excellent care Laura received. We are most grateful. We would
also like to thank Dr. Jocelyn Cormier, Dr. John McCrea, the staff of
4600 (Moncton Hospital)
and numerous other health providers over the
years.
Her arrangements have been
entrusted to Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton
(858-1995).
